Open Question: does anyone have a good interior design idea for a empty roon entrance?

so my apartment is when you open the fron door there is a big room 2 stairs and another two rooms . the first room you see used to be a dining room but is now empty. the second room after the stairs is a beautiful gold and floral/cheetah couch. next to it is a family room with a couch and t.v. my porblem is the place where the dining room used to be is empty and is big so we dont know what to put in it. my father was thinking a really big carpet to put a vase in the middle to make it a 'grand entrance' even though i think it looks stupid. can anyone who has a great idea send me one? pics also :) please and thank you  more

Open Question: Electronic Arts - The Sims 3 - What's good about it, what's bad about it?

SO WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT THE SIMS 3? It's an open world environment. The loading times have significantly decreased. The CAS studio sims look better than ever before. The sims have more character traits that make them behave differently. There are options to vary the characters voices so they don't all sound the same. You can customise most decorations in and around the house to allow for personal taste and diversity. AND WHAT'S BAD ABOUT THE SIMS 3? The create your own style has limitations as build objects like stairs, roof tiles and chimneys cannot be altered. No longer is there a cinematic moment whn you sim has first kiss, woo hoo, gets engaged, gets married or has a baby. You can't start with a blank neighbourhood and place empty lots of varying size to create your own world like in the Sims 2. The create your own style is limited with such things as making a door the colour you want it but not being able to change the knob. There are buildings that sims disappear into while working that cannot be decorated/rebuilt and are unmovable, these buildings have no contents. Bad UV mapping on town roads shows the yellow lines dont match up at the bends, it's quite obvious from a distance so it becomes annoying and unsightly. You now have to pay for custom content as EA have made a ruling that sharing custom content for free is violating their rules and could lead to prosecution. You can't send your sim shopping, go out to a restaurant or nightclub and actually see the sims, as above they just disappear for a while, nor can you design any of these places in any degree. Transferred CAS sims lose all their looks in the actual game, texture sizes seem to have been reduced from a 1024x1024 body and 512x512 face to a 256x256 body and a 128x128 face making sims look like dolls with NO realism whatsoever. A serious problem with pc's running windows vista makes the game freeze periodically and you have to reset or switch off your system which makes it very hard to feel any progression within the game and risks data loss of which some may be valuable. The global lighting system in the Sims 3 is very poor, sim shadows are almost non existant, specular artifacts can be seen on objects and sims, due to this textures look too saturated which results in less blending and even more artifacts like colour banding. One of the main reasons this franchise was so successful was the ability to create your own stuff, there are no options for custom content such as your own textures for floor tiles, walls, pictures or clothing let alone the possibility of an easy way to make new clothing like the TS2 body shop offered. The patterns and materials that are available to create your own style are hideous and look as if they were made by amateurs or rushed out with no care taken, these "things" are mostly the only way of customising the game seeing as other previously open avenues have now been closed in order to provide this open world environment. The available items to choose from in CAS, buy and build mode are pathetic compared to the Sims 2 base game, also the quality of meshes and textures has been dumbed down so much that objects look pixellated and blurry no matter the lod distance between camera and object. Basically the lod system has been overlooked and swept under the rug. Missing animations like sims opening car doors and getting in, sims just slip in and out and not with grace either, the baby diapers and bottles now disappear and cannot be cleaned up, babies are not changed on a table anymore nor can they be washed in a sink, they magically get clean after a sim spins them in the air and the nappy falls off. Very few of the textures supplied with the game are suitable for use in any context, it looks like EA games are buying their textures from DOSCH Textures and barely altering them, every decent cg artist knows these are not suitable for games and barely suitable for mental ray rendering. Spending some time on making nice textures would help overcome some major frustrations. That's my view after being a avid fan of the sims franchise for years ever since the first game. What do you think?  more

Voting Question: How to setup my office professionally?

Hello, I'm a young business owner "under 25", and my business is growing FAST! I went from 2 employees to now 16 employees within the place 1 1/2. I recently had to buy a new office building Down Stairs has 4 offices which will be turned into open space and one office for a break area. But upstairs has a Studio Apartment which I'm going to turn into my office + conference room. What is the best way to setup my office? I regular have Government "military" clients dropping by and I just want it to look professional what is the best way to design my office? My brain lacks designer skills? I want to give it a "green" appearance btw. Sorry about the typos FireFox........ The break area has a bathroom for Male/Female works. The receptionist desk is in the front at the main door. The main reason upstairs is my office is well I have a small daughter that I sometimes take to the office with me and it has enough room for her to play and stay out of trouble. It also over looks my entire facility and this is important.  more

Resolved Question: Do you find this funny?

Old man Harley (who invented Harley Davidson's) dies. So he get's up to heaven and he's standing outside of the pearly gates when St. Peter walks up and says,"Hey, aren't you old man Harley? You invented Harley Davidson moter cycles didn't you?" Old man Harley agrees that he did. St. Peter says,"Well of course you get in! And we think a lot of you around here, so you pick anyone you want to see and talk to and I'll make it happen." So old man Harley thinks about it and says,"I've always wanted to meet God, and talk to him for a bit." St. Peter says,"Done, follow me." So St. Peter leads him into heaven up these long stairs in the clouds and up to God's office. Old man Harley steps into God's office and see's him sitting on his throne. God looks down to see who his visitor is and says,"Well, aren't you old man Harley who invented the motorcycles?" Again old man Harley agrees and then adds,"And aren't you the guy who invented women?" God looks a little confused but answers yes. Old man harley says,"Good invention. But I noticed some flaws in your design." God says,"OH, and what are they" Harley says,"Well, the intake is way too close to the exhaust for one. Two, they tend to chatter, and Three the ass end wobbles at high speeds." God sits and thinks about that for a minute, then leans over to his computer and starts typing. Once his printer had printed what he was working on, he looked at the paper and said to the old man,"Your right, my invention dose have it's flaws, but statistics show that more men ride my invention than yours." Voting Question: How do carpet runners on stairs work on landings?

We'd like a carpet runner down our stairs to go with the 'period' feel of the hallway but what happens on the landings (we have 3 in total)? I've looked at lots of interior design books and they show the stairs from the bottom looking up so I can't tell. Does the carpet go all the way to the edges or is there a gap like on the stairs? If it goes all the way to the edges, will it not look weird? Is it more expensive to do this or do you just fold the edges under?  more

Resolved Question: Opionon on my book...?

Dont be to harsh, I'm only 13. ○ As I sat there pondering what was going to happen to me next I started to debate what was worst the smell of this run-down hotel, which made my nose burn because of the rusty blood type smell or the fact i sat there knowing people have died here. I knew my mom would return soon but her job was just so odd. What kind of women would choose a job were you have to investigate old places to see if they can be fixed up, if there haunted, if they need to come down and so on! Anyways this was the first day i came to work with my mom because this hotel was only thirty minutes out of town. My mom said she had to go look around with her co-worker Phil. (Hes a tool, trust me.) Back too my point, i sat her looking over each corner, every inch of this lobby. I pictured what this hotel use to look like but that was far back in the sixties i believe. The lobby had a elegant chandler that had been over run by cob-webs and dust, and the front desk was still intack but nothing else was really in the lobby except a few chairs that where plain, but pretty cozy. Listen too me, I'm sitting in what might be a haunted hotel talking about the comfortable chair I'm sitting in. This is crazy. I decided before i go mad talking about the hotels interior design i might as well go look around. I starting walking towards the stair ways because who knows if the elevator worked, Once i reached the door to the stairways it was locked. Impossible, My mom went through this exact door and she had no keys to lock it. I decided maybe my mom did and i wasnt suppose to go up there so i went back to my cozy chair and sat down and pulled out my phone. I had 7 text messages that i slowly replied too and played a few rounds of brick breaker. What was the hold up? My mom had been up there for atleast an hour. I held down the two and it started calling her. It rang 2 and then answered but hung up, thats strange. Wheres my mom? Okay thats barely any but i was beginning to spook myself out, lol what did you guys think?  more

Resolved Question: CAN YOU REVIEW THIS PAPER FOR ME?

make corrections and tell me what you think. thank you Introduction: A significant portion of our population, (over fifty six million in the United States of America), have impairments that limit or reduce their ability to function in normal everyday activities (Waggner, 2003). These impairments may be acquired at birth or through accidents or disease. The Simulation Project is a hands-on workshop designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustrations children and adults with Learning Disability/Attention Deficit Disorders and other disabilities encounter every day. These simulation exercises will be performed with devices that replicate mobility, visual, and hearing impairments. Summary of Simulations: Participants rotate through each of the ten learning stations, each which simulates a school related processing deficit. The lab simulations take about two to three hours to complete and are monitored by a lab assistant at Youngstown State University. The first activity was the hearing impairment or hard of hearing simulation also called the “unfair hearing test”. In this simulation students are to listen to an audio tape and experience the difficulties involved with a person with a hearing disability. This simulation will allow the students to understand the several degrees of hearing loss a person might have. The simulation began with adjusting the sound level to a student’s comfortable level. The speaker in the audio tape listed several words in various degrees of difficulty that a child might experience. The students are to write out each list of words as they are spoken. At the end of the simulation, the students were to write out ideas on how to accommodate students with hearing impairments. In the second activity, the students were to simulate the difficulties of a student that is orthopedically handicapped. According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, an orthopedically handicapped disability is characterized by a severe orthopedic impairment, including malfunction or loss of bones, muscle or tissue (Corbett, 2008). In this exercise the student are paired up in groups of two. Each student is required to wear splints on hands and wrists, knees, elbows, and then perform several tasks. These tasks include walking up and down stairs, writing their name on paper and on a white board, putting on a coat, combing their hair, and tying their shoes. The students should then compare the differences in maneuverability with and without the splints. The students also completed a third simulation exercise, the developmental disability simulation. In this simulation, students were to match several words to their defections to the best of their ability. The second part of the lab consisted of defining several words. The definitions and the words did not make much sense. The purpose of this exercise was to experience the difficulties that a person with mental retardation might go through. The students also performed a fourth, speech handicapped simulation. In this lab, the students read several passages aloud. The students then matched the different passages with the speech disordered child might have. These passages consisted of a normal, articulation disordered, fluency disordered, and language-impaired speakers. At the end of the simulation, the students were then asked how they felt during the experiment and which speech was the most difficult. The fifth exercise was the specific learning disability simulation. In this exercise, the students experienced the difficulties of children with a visual perception, visual motor integration, and visual figure-grounded problems. In the visual perception portion of the exercise, the student was asked to view a black and white photo and determine object was in the picture. The next part of the experiment was the visual motor integration exercise. In this part of the experiment, the student was to trace around a dotted star and other various shapes while viewing their reflection in a mirror. The students were then asked several questions about how they felt and possible ways a school teacher could adjust their classroom to assist a learning disabled child. The sixth exercise is the specific learning disability simulation. In this exercise, the students worked in pairs of two. In the first part of the experiment, the students conducted a perceptual reading assignment. The students viewed a basic color chart and pointed out each color aloud. They then read the words of several different colors. The words were in color, but the colors did not match the words. In the next part of the laboratory exercise, the students read 4 poems aloud. The then identified the problem the student might have with each poem. The students than listened to an audio tape of the four poems and answered several questions about the simulation. The students continued the specific learning disability exercise  more

Voting Question: Having trouble choosing a major, suggestions?

I am about to turn 23 and I just got my associates degree. Now I'm transferring to a 4-year university, but I can't decide on a major... I like history, but I don't want to teach. I game occasionally, use to be much more. Really like electronic music, but know nothing about music and sound really. I love to travel. Good at math. I like photography and design. I am good with building and planning. Parents own a stair installation business, but I'm not sure I'd want to follow in their footsteps. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Could someone tell me the meaning of my dream, I have a dream dictionary but it didn't cover it all.?

I was in a house in my parents home country Chile, and I was on the floor playing with snakes, the three that I remember, one was red with black designs the other yellow with black poke-dots and the other was orange. I had one of the snakes rap around my left arm and it faced me and it sticked its tounge out lots of times looking at me. But after I had to go because the people I was with there where walking out the door, so I didn't want to be by myself. I got up and looked at the snakes again and saw they where shedding there skin, I thought it was cool because they where all doing it and slithering away from it. I brought my attention back to leaving and I noticed a room with a dim light on on the side of the exit door, it was some type of laundry room and there was a snake on top of the washer machine. I thought oh no I gotta put it back with the other snakes, so I went over and noticed it was brownish color, and it the other thing it was a cobra, but for some reason in my dream I called it a python, I went closer and it attack me by biting me on my arm lots of times (I saw it teeth and felt the bites jab in me, I know your not suppose to feel it but I did I don't l know why), the snake fell to the floor and I stepped on it and then kicked it across to the other snakes, then I looked back to my arm and saw all the bite marks and noticed my arm swelling up in bumps. I left the house and all of sudden I was walking by a plaza and I was walking away from the group that i was with, I was standing by the curb on corner of the street watching the traffic go by, the street was a pinkish brick road, and on the other side was the plaza and there was some type of event going on, and a police ladie letting people go in, from what I noticed was that the event had a capacity so there where wasa only so much of people that could get in, I crossed the street and I was feeling ill and like I couldn't breath, like my throat was closing in on me. I came up to the police woman and she said to me " Ok you can go in too" and at the same time she told others they could get in too. I got upset and yelled at her " I don't wanting f***ing go in there, I feel ill, can't you see!" I showed her my arm and noticed it had swelled into big bumps and where whitish purple. She covered her mouth then said "ok lets get you to the hospital right away. We started to walk down the street on the side walk when we came up to a pinkish red brick building, at that point I felt like I was dying and couldn't breath anymore. There was big wooden door and she opened it up and it was like a back alley with a desk and some doctor stuff and there was a woman who was older but I could see her face she was sitting at a desk working on something, she had reddish orangey hair. Then there was the doctor who was by this chair that look almost like a barber chair, I sat down on the chair and the doctor asked me what happen, I told him that I was bitten by a snake and I showed him my arm and he asked what type of snake, I said it was a python from some reason, but since I was talking in spanish and everyone else that was in the dream that i forgot to mention, I wasn't sure how you said python, so I said peaton peathon, then he walked away. it was hard for me to talk already because I couldn't breath and I was desperate for the pain to go away, then I looked over to the woman at teh desk, and she turned to face me, and it turned out to be someone that I know in real life that I haven't seen since last summer, she is no one close or anything, but for some reason she was like a nurse or something, I started to cry in relief because I knew that she could help translate some things I couldn't say, and that when I woke up in real life and I was actually crying like crazy, I checked my arm just in case because the bite seemed so real. Does anyone know the meaning of the dream, I tried to explain most of the dream that I can remember but I had this in the morning so I couldn't get everything in there. I did check in with the dream dictionary but It didn't cover all of it. So if anyone could help me explain what the dream meant. Also another dream, before this one, it was in europe I beilieve, me and my mother where walking up the stairs to some type of castle museum and we came across a room slash cage, there was a bed in the corner and a night table with a water pot on it and a frame hanging on the wall, the wall had floral print on it, it was old and the floor was a beat wooden floor. all of the sudden Three people appeared out of no where on the floor, they sat there looking at me with grins and pale faces, one was a little boy and a woman and man, the boy leaned over and started to jab his teeth on to the man shoulder eating it away, and then ripping off flesh and eating it, then they where all doing it to each other and blood was every where, they looked at me and laughed and grinned and had flesh hanging from there teeth and blood dri  more

Resolved Question: What can I do about my HOA?

We did some remodeling this past Jan. and in that remodel was a new fence. We had a 6 ft wood fence that was deteriorating and falling down. The builder put up a new wood fence that is stair stepped fence with caps to fit the contour of the yard. However it isn't 6 ft. It's only around 5 ft. We didn't have the plans approved through the HOA. Honestly I thought my builder was going to do it after a conversation I had with him about it. Regardless no one did and you know where the rest is going. The HOA is saying that they don't approve of the fence because it isn't 6ft high. Even though it look a hell of a lot better than the old one. They are now saying we have 2 weeks to approve a new design (add lattice or tear down and build new). And then we have until Aug 1st to make the change. O.k. the biggest problem I have with all of this is that there are probably 6-7 other houses that also didn't get permission from the HOA and they don't have the specified requirments either. Their's are either white vinyl or iron or not 6ft either. However they've all had theirs up longer when there was a different HOA in charge. What recourse do I have? The HOA is not making the other homes out of requirment tear down their fences and build new. Would a lawyer be worth the time and money to fight this? For me it's about principle. I really don't mind adding the lattice to my fence IF everyone else that was out of code had to do something about theirs. What can I do?  more

Resolved Question: What color should I paint?

My townhouse is SMALL (900 sq ft). It's the first house my husband and I bought. I'm a senior interior design major in college, but I'm having a rough time with my own living room. =/ When you walk into my living room, the stairs are directly behind the door. The living space is to the right. We have a double window that is east facing, so we get direct sunlight from sunrise till 2pm. It's 12x12. Currently, we have a beige microfiber couch, the walls are painted almost robin's egg blue (the paint turned out wrong... it was supposed to have a gray-ish tint to it and look clean and open). Our doors and trim are white. And we just bought an expensive area rug that is chocolate brown with gray-blue, tan, and sage green palm leaves. Resolved Question: please proofread my essay?

please help. Back then, I was insecure of my body and was so focused on losing weight. I’ve tried many drastic and dangerous diets, hoping that my body will change. I was so focused crash dieting that I forgot to appreciate the body that I already have. And that’s why I believe in thanking my body. I’ll admit that I was not always satisfied with my body and, but I’m still grateful for it because it has held up throughout the years. It allowed me to go places and do things that I want to do. I was volunteering at a local senior center a couple months ago, when I met this elderly woman who has changed my perspective about everything. I remember running up the stairs and the elderly woman, who was sitting upstairs in a wheelchair, said to me, “I would give anything if I could do that again.” Right there, I felt lucky to have a body that can do pretty much anything that I ask it to do. I felt incredibly grateful for my legs which was it was crazy to me, considering just years ago I would stand in front of my mirror and get really paranoid about the size of it. I wanted to be one of those girls whose legs didn’t jiggle every time they walked. I shouldn’t lament on my flabby and fleshy thighs or short legs when many women around the world have spent their lives in a wheelchair. Just thinking about these crazy thoughts only made me feel worse. I should feel grateful for my body and appreciate how wonderfully it has been designed. I should embrace them and celebrate the fact that my strong, muscular legs had enough power to help me run up the stairs. I appreciate for what I have instead of what I don’t have. I don’t need to look like models, I just need to be healthy and that should keep me happy. There is true beauty in each of my flaw and I shouldn’t body-bash it. Accepting each flaw had made me feel more positive and made me think that I have more time to talk about what really matters. It is refreshing to focus on the positives. I am thankful for my tummy because it gives me the strength to dance, walk, or run. I am grateful for my butt because it cushions me every time I fall. I can hug my friends and take care of my family in a physically. There are a lot of things that I can say about my body and it would take a book to list all of them. My body is truly marvelous in many ways and it deserves to be admired and appreciated, not hated because it’s not perfect. When I can respect myself enough to treat me in a way that will promote me to health and happiness, I find that a great cause.  more

Resolved Question: Can the main floor be level with the ground and there still be a basement?

We have designed a house and we are going to be contacting an architect and contractor shortly. We want to have a basement in our house but, we dont want a sloping backyard. We are okay with not having a walk out daylight basement. We want to have it so that we can access the pool from the main living area without going down stairs. Basically, can a house that has a basement be flush to the ground like a house that doesnt have one? I dont know if the question makes sense. We want the first floor of our house to be on the same level as the backyard without. We'd be okay with a few steps (2-4) but no more than that to get to the backyard. Is it possible to do this while having a basement? when you say high do you mean like an extra $50,000 or an extra $250,000? I think the latter is the most we could afford.  more

Voting Question: Anyone with chicken coop experience? Opinion needed.?

I have an 8x12 shed we are getting ready to convert into a chicken coop. After pouring over designs and ideas, I basically know how I want it laid out, but I walked past an old wooden china hutch we were going to junk and got a funny idea. Along with the normal roost and nest boxes, what if I put the hutch in there? It has 4 stair step type shelves on top, two drawers that could be pulled open and a cabinet beneath that could easily be divided into 2 nest boxes. Do you think the chickens would use this? It just sounds like a fun idea to me. Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Making a model of Shakespears Globe Theatre???

I'm a highschooler and for my Romeo and Juliet project in english class, I'm going to create a model of the globe theatre. The model will be the size of a toaster..... Something that is portable and would fit ok a small table. I know the layout of the globe theater and would like my model to open at the top to expose the inside. I need ideas ok ebay to make the outer wall out of. I'm thinking popsiclle sticks???? Then the benches are wood, so maybe popsiclle sticks again. There are also stairs, pillars, a roof, windows, the stage which is a raised playform and a flag that flies from the root. I could also use cardboard... But idk. Tell me what you think would work and what wouldn't. Also, there's a balcony and as I'm not an artist do you know a website where I could print out the intricate ceiling design from???? One more thi by: there are two trap doors one on the ceiling and one on the floor. Thanx. <3  more

Resolved Question: What color should I paint my hallway?

Its a really tight space, You walk up the stairs and a half bath is right in front of you, to the right is a bedroom, to the left is a closet with french doors, a full bath and two bedroom. All of the room off of the hallway are white right now and I want to Pick the color of the hallway first so I can match all of the room to it. Also the hallway is right up the staircase from the living room, so I would really like to paint the hallway and the living room the same color. I want a color that would lighten up a house, but not white because thats too dull. What color, or I would even LOVE it if you could design a whole color pallete for my living room/hallway? Thank you!(:  more

Resolved Question: AC Noise after quiet hours?

I'm dealing with a 2 month new upstairs studio neighbor that has installed an AC unit in the last 2 days. They have taken to running the thing all night. Our units are less than 400 sq. ft.. I let them know it was causing a noise issue last night yet they are running all night again tonight. after I let them know at 1 AM last night they said they would shut it off. It was installed and running by 7 PM. It was not that hot yesterday and even cooler today. Last night or early Friday Morning I went up and let them know it was and issue We are the only 2 studios in an 11 unit complex and they are the only ones who have done this. They failed to turn it off and after I banged on my ceiling 1 TIME about 30 minutes later. They called the cops on me! When I saw him drive in I asked him who he was looking for and it was me. Freeking unreal! After I go up and try to talk to them first! I was nice though annoyed, he actually said to me,"You can hear it?" I had already let him know that I could hear and clearly make out his words during the many multiple hour cell calls he's had over my head, and he's clueless to the notion that an AC unit running at 1 AM is going to be noticeable? I had notified the managers when I saw them bringing the unit in. They planned to install it in the front of the unit which would have blocked a part of the upstairs walkway. I didn't think mgmt. would have okay'd this? Workers claimed they did. It wouldn't fit so they put it in back in the kitchen area where I had already had to move my bed to get away from the noise. I live by stairs and the laundry room, driveway etc. It being a studio. I moved my bed to the back area where the bulk of bedrooms are thinking I'd have some quiet because of the design. Now they put the AC unit right over my head. This is an old building the new tenents are aware of the lack of any sound insulation. They know I sleep away from them.in the back. The flooring cracks loudly and they walk heavy. Now I have no place at all to get a peaceful night sleep. I think the unit should fall under quiet hours rules and can't understand why they insist on running it all night even when it's not hot outside? We have another apt building less than 15 feet away from us. There is only one unit there with an AC unit like theirs it's smaller and it covers a 2 bedroom apt. I have notified mgmt. that it had arrived let them know it was being installed w/out permission and complained that it was causing a noise issue. I have no where else to sleep at any time that is quiet unless they choose to shut it off, now. the people across the way have even shut their windows due to these inconsiderate A-holes! I need to know what I can do I have no where else to try to get some sleep! I have always tryed to be considerate and always extend myself to avoid issues like these. Hell I wear earphones if I watch movies late at night because I don't want to disturb them just knowing how this place is and these people don't get a shit. Oh did I mention the massage chair they use right over my work desk that makes my desk vibrate when they turn it on. They didn't have a clue about that being an issue in an upstairs apt either??? I guess the idea of common sense has never been introduced to them? There is no mgr on site, I have let the new people know how lacking this place is as far as soundproofing. I am disabled and can't even get the he11 away from them. Even getting up the stairs to state the obvious last night was annoying because with the info I already gave them it was a no brainer that the noise would be and issue especially during the night. During the day I don't give a F@#$ but gees who needs to run AC all night or even air from such a noisy appliance? There is no noise ordinance for something like this??? I have been her for almost 4 years and moving for a laid off disabled person is not any option. I am actively trying to find a new career AGAIN with in less than 2 years to go with my new disability and it really sucks to have any extra BS right now!  more

Voting Question: What do architects and interior designers do, exactly?

I know they design the exterior and calculate costs and make sure the building cooperates with safety measures, but do (can) they design the interior as well, or is that an interior designer's job? Can architects design the minute details of doorways and stairs and floor tiling and wall color? If that's an interior designer's job, then do the interior designers design the house itself or the accessories like lamps or desks or cabinets? Is there a job that combines both interior and exterior design?  more

Resolved Question: dream interpretations anyone? you're going to think me a mad man!?

I had this dream last night that i did something wrong. I don't know what it was, I don't think that it was all that important. But I went for a bit of a run to avoid getting caught. I ended up in this maze like building it had been designed by art students so it was brightly coloured, pink and purple, and, black and white zig zag patterns on the walls and floor. The students were all sitting around in it, they left me be. I don't think there was actually anyone chasing me at this stage. Once I got out of there I got to this wooden spiral staircase and i walked up them but as i got higher up the stairs just disappeared but the banister was still there so i climbed up the bannister. At the top was an airport. When I was in there I looked out the big window and there was a plane crash. People I knew were there, they were telling me that one of my sister's old high school friends may have been on the plane but they were sure. So I ran out to it with my sister, but we found we were running in the wrong direction. i meant that they weren't sure if the girl was on the plane.  more

Resolved Question: Can anyone help with school project (building and designing a museum?

For a 8th grade school project, my group of 3 people will have to build and design our own museum, the approximate size of a school desk or larger. We have picked a Science Museum. I really could use your help with coming up with exhibit/room ideas or ways to make it creative. So far;; i have only thought of a Dinosaur Exhibit, Human Body, Solar System, Souvenir Shop. I need at least 10 major exhibits and 20 small but important ones. We will be making it out of different materials, and it seems easy to use cardboard or clay, but i want to be creative and use a variety of materials. For example;; What kind of materials can i use for stairs, trees, lightbulbs, dinosaurs, etc. Anything will help, like what i can do with bathrooms, doors, rooms, reception. Ideas of making the outside of my museum catchy, new, and creative. I have never been to a science museum, so a description of their different exhibits or whatever would help alot. Any ideas, suggestions, or help will be GREATLY appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Carrie Bradshaw help needed!!?

HELP!!! I LOVEEE Carrie's dress she wears in episode 47. It's season 3 episode 17 of the season. It's white with what I believe is a floral design on the bottom and it appears to be a butterfly gold belt in the middle. It is what she is wearing to the "sam jones" dorm party when she is pushed down the stairs. Does anyone know who designed this dress, it's name, where it could be found?!?! Thanks :o)  more

Voting Question: Do you like this story so far?

Thick gray clouds covered the sun and Rolena Bishop was sighing all over the car as she and her aunt Helena drove toward Helena’s enormous home of bricks and vines. Rolena was trying really hard not to cry and yell. Her parents had died in a car crash a few weeks before and her Aunt Helena was now taken her from her home in California to the green fields of Scotland. It was beautiful Rolena must had to admit but nothing would make her happy now. Helena had noticed her sighing and patted her back. Rolena was sad all over again as Helena’s thick Scottish accent had belted out memories of her parents and that everything was going to be okay. Her dark brown hair covered half of her face and her hazel eyes were glinting with tears. She once again sighed as they pulled up into the fresh paved cement next to the gorgeous home. “Rolena, honey?” Helena asked the girl, “Your stuff is in the truck. So please go get your room in order. Unpack…unpack, dear.” Rolena felt a groan coming up but she quickly brought it back down as Helena walked swiftly across the cement and into the stain glass doors. She had only brought a few of her clothes that were now stuffed into two boxes and her sixteen years of memorabilia were packed into four big brown cubes. She took the two boxes and headed into the unfamiliar house. As she walked in she saw that this door led to the kitchen and dining room. She sniffed her slightly pink nose as she walked passed a big pot of spaghetti sauce. Rolena hummed at the delight of finally eating food. She turned left at the opening of the living room. Inside there were magnificent paintings and elegant furniture. To her it was like walking into a museum. The most that surprised her was the odd couple that was hanging over the fireplace. It wasn’t Helena or her deceased husband. The ever-so pale man was holding the lady and she too was unreasonably pale. Rolena walked toward the white people and she realized that they were wearing maybe millions of dollars worth of clothing. She gasped at the red and black dress and the matching outfit the man wore. Suddenly, Rolena heard the clickity clack of Helena’s expensive heels and was on her way. To the left was a twirling staircase. She thought this house was more of a castle then a house. At the top of the stairs there were nine doors. Five on the south side and two on the northwest and two on the northeast. Which one is mine? Rolena though intently until she she saw a sign on one of the doors on the east. Rolena’s Room! No housekeeping Until settled. Rolena walked toward it and read the sign over again. House Keeping? Rolena thought, She’s way to rich! Rolena lifted her hand to turn the golden knob. The creak of the door scared her at first but then she saw how lovely the room was and forgot about everything. There was a queen-sized bed with beautiful flower prints and matching pillowcases across from another fireplace. The bedposts were even more beautiful as they made a vine like structured design. By the bed was a round night table with a glass surface and an old-fashioned light. Directly across from the door was a huge window with white curtains and a cushion to sit on. A six-drawer dresser lay at the foot of the bed where Rolena knelt with the boxes and sighed. Maybe this won’t be that bad after-all Rolena thought also remembering she forgot to grab a box-cutter from the kitchen. Her 5’ 6 body got up from the golden carpet and out into the hallway. She stopped dead silent at a conversation heard below. “I do not believe in such nonsense! I lived here almost my whole life and you’re telling me blood-sucking animals are flying about this town? You sir, are a story money making scoundrel and should leave this house immediately!” Rolena heard her Aunt yell. There were a lot of footsteps until somebody spoke up again. “Miss Helen,” A man said calmly, “I am only trying to protect you. You and you’re neice don’t want to be sucked by a bunch of flying leeches, do you?” there was a echoed slap and an ouch! “ My name is Helena. Do not come around here again! You understand?” There was no ‘Yes, Ma’am’ so Rolena thought that he just nodded his head and left. She was right as there was a slam and a shake of the glass door. Rolena blew a sigh of relief and came running down the steps one by one with a silent thump of her Uggs boots. As she reached the bottom, Helena stands there with a large grimace on her now-pale face. For the second time Rolena stopped with a dead-silence. Helena started. She walked toward the sixteen-year-old girl with flourish. “Were you listening to that little conversation?” She spoke softly. Rolena was better then being treated like a child. “Yes, was all that true, aunt Helena?” She spoke even softer, “ About the vampires and stuff?” Helena shook her head and told the teen-ager to leave to where she needed to go. But now all Rolena could t Sorry the last sentence is supposed to say... But all Rolena could think about was vampires. Cheesy I know! But I really like this idea and stuff!  more

Resolved Question: what does it mean to dream you have to clean a synagogue?

Ok i am not Jewish, and i have never been in a synagogue, but some how i knew it was one in my dream. It happened like this. I walk in, the had an alter with one stair step to it. I was standing with a rag in my hand, and a small pan of water. It was surrounded with greenish marble, so was the floor. It even had some unusual designs, like small imprints of shapes in some areas around the walls. I looked over to see a blond lady on hands and knees cleaning the floor. So i was ready to get down with her, but then i hesitated, I thought. Why do i have to clean a synagogue? I am catholic. ?? Then i woke up.  more

Resolved Question: Is the beginning of my (revised) story any good :)?

It’s a stale September day and my left calf is sticking to the satin sheets of my beige pull out couch bed. My body feels sticky and disgusting and I decide to take a shower in a few minutes, as soon as I can conjure up the energy. My oversized green radio is sitting on my desk and I can hear the soft drift of music. I think a Mariah Carey song is playing, but I’m not sure. I look from the radio, to my chipping pink toenails, to the worn out and cracked soles of my feet. Attractive. When I look away from my feet, I see the wobbling fan that whirls overhead. I imagine how it rouses the hot and heavy air to circle the confines of my room and then exit through the two small windows that accommodate my walls. The windows don’t let in much air, but plenty of sun, and I come to mind how spectacular a mirror can look when hit with just the right light. The colors reflected sort of remind me of a cool spring day somewhere from my past, and I start to name every shade and hue noticeable to my eye. Red, blue, yellow, green, pink, purple…but there are so many colors in between, and although I’m sure they have names, I can’t remember any of them so I just give them new ones. They’re new and exotic and I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m disappointed they would only again come in handy if I decided to take an internship at Crayola design board, if such a thing actually exists. By the time I’m finished with creating my own miniature rainbow, I’ve become almost certain that the temperature has risen and the air has become twice as dense. I play with a loose thread stringing off of my comfy cotton shorts and drift back to 9th grade when I learned about weather and it’s high and low air masses. If I remember correctly, a cold front follows a warm front, and if that’s true, then surely a cold front should be coming through? Doesn’t that bring rain or something, though? I‘m really not sure, I could be completely wrong. I don’t remember much of my past years classes, except for Earth Science being my least favorite 45 minutes of the day for that entire year because all I could think about was how maybe none of anything I learned applied at all to the earths events, but that it could possibly all just be her way of telling us how hot and neglected she’s become. I roll over so my face is against my pillow. These are the things I notice when the house is empty and the street is quiet. When there’s nothing to do but note the little details of your area and analyze them, because your brain is too empty and simple to contemplate anything meaningful. This is one of those times where ideas come slow, so you go into deep thought over the most useless of things and end up contemplating the origin of mint flavored dental floss or something. I hear the front door creak open and heavy footsteps plod across the oak floors. The quiet’s gone and I’m thankful. “Ava, you home?! I got pizza!” I feel myself grin up at the wobbling ceiling fan. The prospect of food and company slightly re-energizes me and I stand up, my toes curling into the plush throw rug. My clothes are damp and uncomfortable from lying down in the heat for that long, so I strip them off and grab my bathrobe from the hook fixed to the door. The warm New York weather had been starting to bring me down, but a cool shower was sure to make me feel a bit better. I step outside my room and onto the landing. “Ok, Dave ! I’m just gonna take a quick shower!” I yell from the top of the stairs. Dave’s my older brother. He lives with my in our generic NYC apartment, keeping me company, paying most of the rent (even though I try to help out, but my minimum wage sales assistant job doesn’t exactly allow it). My Mom isn’t home much since she’s an editor to some big company that I never remember the name to. It caters to business news and stock market information, and other boring aspects of the world. Her boss throws her from one country to another, meeting with one person of high importance after another, telling them what’s “key” in their writing and what isn’t. I can tell it hurts her to be away from Dave and I for such long periods of time, but since our Father passed away from pancreatic Cancer, she really has no choice. I really don’t mind, I like Dave, and she calls often enough anyway. “C’mon Ava! Hurry your ass up, it‘s getting cold!” I quickly make my way down the hall. Even though the hallway is narrow and I have to be careful not to bump my side into the bathroom counter while starting up the shower, I have to admit I live in a fairly sized apartment. Two bedroom, single bath and an adjoining kitchen/living room area. It’s in a good area, and I enjoy the pretty view we get of the city. My Mom always says when she visits that it holds the perfect balance of comfort, not too small to be claustrophobic, yet not too big to feel empty, and it makes me smile when she’s that. I don’t know why, but I like having Mom’s approval. I step into  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my writing? You don't have to finish reading.?

I had never given much thought as to how I would die, or maybe I should say that I never gave much thought as to how I would live. But, dying is supposedly part of life; when you die, you are gone physically, and your spirit will be offered the golden gates of heaven, or the charcoal-black ones of hell... My death was given neither of those options. My death was reversed. CHAPTER 1 I sat up in my bed annoyed and confused. The haunting dreams of the previous night were building up with each moment of my unconsciousness. I had to move only to avoid sinking back into slumber. Nothing was of any importance beside the throbbing pulse in my temple that has greeted me at every one of my rude awakenings from the past few days. I can't help but wonder the cause of the nightmares even though my finding an answer is doubtful. Moving was a whole other factor. With every twitch, the pulsing got a beat per minute faster. It was a heavy pressure deep inside of my head. After a half-hour of moving down the huge winding staircase and making my way to the kitchen, I got to the medicine cabinet and reached successfully for the Fast Relief Tylenol. With a little bit of help from H20, I managed to swallow the large white tablet. I leaned back on the dark marble counter to to turn my head sideways and lean my cheek on the cold cabinets that hung above. I saw the bright light of a digital clock hanging over the doorway only to see that it was five in the morning. Enough time for a teenager to sleep? I don't think so. Stumbling my way back up the stairs, I walked back into my bedroom. My family is very wealthy and it shows in my room. A huge king-sized, four poster canopy bed sits in the middle of the room, half way down the northern wall. The fabric that hangs over and around the bed is off-white silk from one of the finest makers in the world and the posts are made of mahogany-very expensive mahogany. One antique side table sits on either side of the bed with a lamp and pile of books on one and alarm clock and cell phone on the other. A large, matching mahogany desk overlooks the front of the estate under a huge window that faces south. My closet is on the eastern wall; it has French doors and a white outline. My floor is carpeted with a basic off-white color called "Castle Stone" that is ultra-soft. Opposite my bed sits a rarely-used flat screen TV and a DVD player in the wall. With the rooms detailed frame and gorgeous shade of light brown that resembles that of a cappuccino, it is beautiful . I didn't get the chance to actually design the room myself, and at first I hated the image it gave me: Shallow wealth. Although I may sometimes enjoy the luxuries of money, I hate being considered a spoiled rotten brat. But then again, when you go to a Los Angeles Private academy, there isn't really such thing as poor or anything besides first class except for the occasional kid with a scholarship. Dasherman is the "Rich kid" school of Los Angeles county. It is about fifteen minutes away from downtown and resides in a hundred year old mansion in the Arroyo (a wealthy community). It is made of red bricks and dark, dark wood. It is a safe haven for all of us who's parents are constantly working, or always in a foreign country on some "business trip," which meant for most kids: Dad is cheating on Mom. Luckily for me; or maybe I should say unluckily: my parents don't go o business trips. Instead, they insist on ignoring me most of the time and telling me how unsuccessful my life will be with the rest of it. I walked past my bed into the bathroom that is connected to my room. I needed a shower (the nightmares left a thick layer of sweat covering my entire body), and as I walked through the large bathroom of cold stone that made me want to jump, I saw my reflection in the large mirror. My looks are pretty decent; I don't find myself to be ugly, nor pretty, but somewhere in between. My eyes are set where they should be, straight nose, and thin lips, although the bottom one is a little bit fuller than the top. I have fairly clear skin, and I'm pretty pale despite the constant Southern California Sun. I have wavy dark brown hair that flows halfway down my back (although, this morning, it has decided to throw itself out in all possible directions). My general body is petite (the result of a very high metabolism), but no so much that my bones jet out and are visible through my skin. I stand at five foot, five inches, which is pretty short compared to both my parents six (plus) feet. My friends tell me that I have "potential." Whatever that is supposed to mean, I don't know. I stared at my deep green eyes and realized the sudden redness of my face. When it gets cold, my face flushes into a rosy pink color that is embarrassing to walk around with because it makes me look like I am blushing to an extreme degree. I then reached into a cabinet, pulled out a light pink towel (part of the rooms color scheme), and turn I understand that my vocabulary is not excellent, and I need to rephrase things, but I'm only thirteen. I realize that it's straight from Twilight. That will be changed, so relax, there was a reason for that: Twilight inspired me to start writing, so I gave it a little credit by putting it in my writing. Like I said, it will be moved.  more

Resolved Question: Do you get nightmares of things you never thought of?

I had gone to my sister’s house for a sleep over a few weekends ago; it was more like three weekends ago. She has three boys and a nice apartment. My mind was solely fixed on grades for midterms and getting my reading done for class. I was babysitting my younger nephews Jayden, Tyerence and Kenneth for the night while their mom went out to a party. Tyerence and Kenneth went to bed, me and Jayden sat on the couch reading a book together until he finally fell asleep. Jayden hates sleeping alone, so I let him lay near me, until he was in a deep slumber, I put him in his own bed. As I prepared myself to sleep in the guest room, I sat on the bed, read the rest of the chapter and took some notes before shutting all of the lights off. I lay on the bed, swallowed up in the surrounding of comfortable pillows and let myself fall asleep. I was ready to sleep like the dead for the night. I had a strange, off balance feeling that told me I was going to get a nightmare, but it was too late to change the position of my sleeping style. My arms and legs were neatly folded while the pillows covered me up with the thick blanket, and the nightmare began. The nightmare started with me at Pine Manor College’s admissions building better known as the Ferry Admissions building. I was standing near the Academic Affairs door but it was closed but then I decided to sit on the steps but not in the way of the people passing by. I sat with my legs crossed looking up at the design of the stairs and the ceiling, and trying to imagine what it was like for the designer to create the stairs. All of a sudden, I see this big, tall figure dressed in black with a long, black trench coat walking toward me. As he or she walked, that person rattled the floor with their weight. I couldn’t see their face or the skin color through their hands because they wore black gloves too. This person also had a pointed top hat, which made them look like a secret killer. The rattling on the floor stops, this person stands in front of me and grabbed my left hand. I pulled back and kicked them in their shin and struggled to get up while this person grabbed the same hand again and took out a weird looking golden ring. I kicked their other shin, they fell back in pain, didn’t even yell either, so I couldn’t tell if it were a women or a man. We battled on the steps for a while, I gave upper cuts to their face, the hat didn’t come off, so I could at least see their hair color, they had my left hand still and they kept trying to put a ring on my hand. I remembered screaming that I didn’t want their ring and that I would rather be dead than to take the ring. I punched their head as hard as I could and to knock the hat off, the hat didn’t budge, they didn’t let go of my hand. Randomly, I ended up near the entrance gate near the post that says the college’s name, running toward the direction where the Chestnut Hill train stop is. As I ran closer to the Starbucks coffee store, the figure came back again. I ended up tripping backwards and that person tried to put the ring on again. This time, my kick went to their groin; they didn’t get hurt by it even though I kicked really, really hard. Those kicks were designed to paralyze a burglar. I kept moving my hand away and they held onto my arm to put the ring on my finger. The ring was halfway down my finger and the dream went away.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my novel so far?

I found the letter in my attic only a week after Mom and I moved in. I was angry with her for putting my photo album in the musty attic that smelled like moldy wood and lavender. Not a sweet lavender either, a strong smell. It gave me a head ache. I pulled hard on the metal chain that dangled from the ceiling. The smell of the attic wafted down to me and I pulled the ladder down slowly. The hot moisture leaked down, dripped on me. My mother and I had gotten into an argument. “That photo album is not meant to be cried over every night, Victoria.” My mother said to me as she sat a glass on the kitchen counter. The setting summer sun cast a glow through the large window behind the sink, turning my mothers light brown hair a striking red. I always admired her messy bun, her smooth features, but in the moment I despised it all. She was right, she always was, but I didn’t care. I wanted to look at my pictures. I needed to read the letter people wrote to me, saying goodbye. I missed my friends. “It’s mine, Mom,” I said to her, eyes welled with tears. “I can do whatever the hell I want with it.” Her eyes were angry for a second, but they softened the longer she stared at me. She understood my pain, and for some reason I resented it. I stormed out of the kitchen and turned down the hallway. I ran up the wooden stairs with my hand on the railing. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. But as I climbed up the ladder, I left my anger behind me. There weren’t very many boxes of ours because we didn’t really have much, so what I was looking for was not hard to find. There it sat on a box labeled Tori, in my mothers hand writing. The album was large and hard to pick up; all the memories weighed it down. It was dark purple, intricately designed with lilacs and reds. I remember when I bought it. I was thirteen years old and spent my whole sixty dollars on it at an arts and crafts store in California when I went to visit my father for the summer. My mother was furious that he let me waste my money, but I think he was trying to teach me the importance of a dollar. I held the album tightly to my chest as I neared the ladder, head throbbing by now. That’s when I saw the dead mouse. I sat my album on the ground and bent down next to the creature. IT was lying on its side, eyes closed, as if it were sleeping. Its chest did not rise and fall, though. Its fragile body had been lifeless for a while. When I got to the kitchen for some paper towels, I told my mother about the mouse. “Maybe we should give it a proper burial,” she suggested. I nodded in agreement. “That’d be nice,” I said, heading back upstairs. When I got back in the attic I wrapped the mouse’s hard body in the soft paper towels my mother bought. I stood up carefully with the mouse, and that’s when the wooden box caught my eye. It looked to my like maybe an old jewelry box of some kind. I picked it up, intrigued. I hoped something was inside of it, eager to unhinge a piece of the past from its dusty grave. Inside there were papers, probably letters. All of them were wrinkled and darker with age. They were tied together perfectly by a scarlet ribbon. I wouldn’t have touched it, but I saw two letters escape from beneath the ribbon. IA. With a careful hand I moved the ribbon. My heart thumped in my chest before I could even think. There in perfect cursive was my name. Victoria. (The format is all weird, it's not really like that. So just ignore that. Haha. What do you think?)  more

Resolved Question: Is my story any good so far?

Here is my story, I'm farther ahead than this, but I wanted to see some people's opinions. Any comments and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism would be nice. :D The midday clouds cleared as the sun faded away. The misty black sky overshadowed the lovely purple sunset as the moon arose into the darkness. “Birthday time!” Mother called up the stairs of our 6 story home. The soft words echoed into every upper floor room, bursting into life as the auto-call built into our stairs wove into the house. “Mama, why do I have to come celebrate? I have lots of summer school homework!” I chided into the microchip in my bed. “Honey, this may be the last chance you have to see your sister before she goes into hiding.” Mother crooned softly through the chip. Her voice flowed like honey through my ears, the sticky words not leaving my brain. Kara's 18 birthday was today. The murderers would be here tomorrow morning to kill her before she could marry and have children. Kara would leave with her belongings in her technology suitcase, designed to fit any furniture and personal belongings she wanted to bring. She would get one for her birthday as did the other fleeing sibling I had and hadn't met. We were all born in different countries, and we all were born two or more years apart. The countries that the others were born in was France (Jerald), U.S. (Connor), Africa (Akita), Philippines (Myrna), and I was born in Germany. Kara was born in the snowy whites of Canada and would be fleeing to her birth city at dawn. Baby Yana was born here, in Peru where we live in the coast. Most of my siblings were already 18 and in hiding. We had no ideas which ones were dead or alive. As I stumbled down the stairs, my head spinning, I was full of sorrow. I had never met Jerald or Connor, my only brothers. Growing up in houses with girls was never fun. “LEON!” Mother snapped, “Get your butt over here!” I picked up the pace, making my way to the first floor. “I'm on the stairs Mother.” “Hurry, it's almost 11! We only have one hour. Have you packed, dear?” “Yes, Mama.” I heard Kara's voice drearily mumble. She had been crying all night long, and I didn't blame her. Being born into a family where the father had been murdered, where your other siblings were in hiding and could be dead, where you leave your best friends every two years.... it really sucked. And it was all because of our eyes. The Curse of the Gold, my father called it. Our eyes were golden, and in this dreadful time where all golden eyes were slaughtered nobody wanted to live with them. My mom was the only one in her family that was born with golden eyes. She had passed this curse to all of us. The empire that ruled the world now would be overthrown if Yana lived to be 18. The murderers did not know Yana existed or she would have died as soon as she was born. Yana is the 5th daughter of the 14th generation... The Princess of the World. It was because of her that our lives were in jeopardy. As my foot touched the last step I hobbled down. I then sprinted to the table to surprise Mom. “Momma, I love you so much. If anything goes wrong tonight, I will faithfully take Yana into my arms!” I teased. “Good. If the murderers catch us, you will be the only one left alive. You and Yana.” Mother choked. Her voice cracked and tears welled up in her eyes. “Momma... everything will be alright. If you are killed I will return and bury your body.” We both turned to the baby and then... to Kara. 35 presents sat on the table, 30 of them being things she needs for the trip, 5 being things she wanted. Kara reached her pale, scabbed arms to grab a present when Mom shot her bruised arm forward and gripped Kara's. “My dear, dear Kara. I love you so much, and I know how hard this is for you. I'm sorry you had to go through this pain and suffering. Please, forgive me and stay safe on this journey.” When Mother took Kara's hand and placed it in hers, she gently dropped a million dollars for Kara to live on. “M-m-m-mom....” Kara blubbered, “I can't take your m-m-money...” Her voice shaking softly, as cold silvery tears spilled down her cheeks. “Shhhh... baby, it's alright. We must hurry, we only have 30 minutes to open presents and 15 for cake and goodbyes.” Mother wiped Kara's eyes and handed her a present. Kara's delicate fingers brushed the silky paper and tore a little piece off. Then, with all her aggression she ripped the paper off in one grasp. “Mom!!! A digital photo frame with pictures of the whole family installed!” She sobbed slightly, and embraced Mom in her arms. “There's Dad... Hi Daddy...” she smiled softly. She set it in her technology suitcase and it sucked it up. Present after present she ripped and placed. Then it came to the last two. One was addressed Kara, and the other Leon and Yana. “Mom, a present for me? And Yana?” I gasped. “Honey, we'll talk after Kara leaves.” Mom whispered in my ear. I ripped open mine and Yana's present, and inside were two small ring  more

Resolved Question: Master Bedroom on First Floor?

So I am trying to design a two story house with a Master Bedroom (Including a Master Bath and walk in Closet[s]) and a guest bedroom (Plus a Guest Bathroom) all on the first floor. This is because when you are older you may not be able to walk up the stairs, so you need a Master Bedroom on the first floor. The reason for the bedroom is because one of your children could have an accident or something which would cause them not to be able to get up the stairs. And keep in mind I would like this house to also have a studio in it. How could I incorporate all of this into a house that an architect could afford?  more

Voting Question: Can you check over my story please?

Hey everyone, Just wondering if you could check over my story that i wrote. Im no where near finished writing it and there are still mistakes in it. If you could just copy to a word and read it and fix mistakes i would VERY VERY much appreciate it. Thanks! There is no intro yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Creak* My eyes snapped open. What was that? I saw a shadowy figure at my door, the figure tried to not be seen or heard. He wasn’t doing a very good job at it. He didn’t notice is I was awake. He slowly crept towards my bed. I could tell by his silhouette that he was very muscular. He was less then a foot away when he reached inside his suit pocket. I leapt off the bed… Vrrrrm. The jet black SUV pulled up to the edge of the street, followed by 2 more. “We need you to do this clean and fast, just snatch the kid and get out of there. No casualties GOT THAT, operative?” “Yes sir” I replied How hard could one 13-year-old kid be? The captain continued, “The boss wants the kid alive so don’t hurt him. We’ll have guards patrolling the area and have 14 more at you disposal. We’ve got our best hackers stationed at all the alarms so done worry about that. If you need any help, you know what to do. The safety button on the vest which will call for reinforcements. “We go over this everyday sir no need to be reminded.” I told him. “Ok, now you have to go through the dining room window and get past the motion detectors on the main hall, then you go to your left and climb the stairs and watch out for the third stair it has a pressure detector” “Uhh what about the camera’s sir, they’re bound to have some. “We’ve taken care of that, we added a loop so they won’t notice a thing.” He explained. “So after you get up the stairs take the first door on your left.” “Sounds easy” Then go show me private. I opened the back door at stepped out into the fresh night’s air. It’s a full moon. “Oh and private” The captain said. “Yes?” “I just got report that the kid knows 6 different kinds of Martial Arts, fully trained in Ninjutsu, Judo, and some other stuff I can’t pronounce.” “Don’t worry sir I don’t think he’ll get past me” I said grinning. Just for some extra encouragement, I flexed my already bulging muscles. I made my way up to the house. Wait let me fix that, MANSION. The place was HUGE. I saw some of our people looking at a screen that showed the whole mansion in infrared. I walked over asked them if I need to know anything. “Just take a look”, one of them said. I went over and got a closer look. The place was crawling with people! Why did we have to pick the only night that they were having a party? “Are they having a party or something? There must be at least 150 people just on the first floor! “No, those aren’t people, those are guards.” The same one said. What kind of paranoid people were these? There are six guards in each room! “Which one is the boy’s room? I asked. “That one”, he said pointing at one of the rooms on the monitor. I only saw one person in bed, which was probably him. “That’s the way they all are”, I said. “What do you mean sir?” he asked. “Powerful people protect there stuff with all the hi-tech stuff and guards, but when it comes to there room no one can see what kind of dirty stuff is going on in there.” I replied. I walked up to there 8ft high iron cast fence with designs that only the devil would be fond of. I looked around for a gate or someway to get across, but I found nothing. There was a lump of black on the ground. I looked more closely and it was a guard. The snipers have done there job well I thought. I hoped no one looked out the window and saw them. I should get started climbing the fence now if I ever want to get inside now. I got a good grip with my hands and started up the fence. I got to the top a few minutes later. I hurtled myself over the fence and landed with a grunt. “Whew” I said. I felt a slight beep in my ear. I tapped the miniscule receiver on my ear. “Private! Newsflash there are mines in the lawn make your way across without setting off a mine you get a bonus.” “Roger that” I replied. This just keeps getting better and better I thought. I remembered a trick that I learned from my old General. If you put your ear to the ground and listen for the slight hum of the pressure detector, you would know where not to step. I lowered my head and listed for something, anything. I strained my ears but heard nothing. Well that didn’t work out how I wanted it too. Maybe they give off some heat. I could use my infrared sensor in my sunglasses. I slid my sunglasses on and everything went black. Real smart to put on dark glasses in the middle of the night. I took them off and looked for the right button to turn on the infrared. I found it and put them on. The world was different tints of red, oranges and dull blues. I looked down at the ground and saw my plan worked. The mines were a dull throbbing red. The pulsing must come from them sending out wavelengths to the They cut off 9 pages of it!  more

Resolved Question: chapter one to my story....?

Chapter 1 The Masked Ball It was almost nightfall, but twilight still lit the sky with bright colors. The night to Spencer Abysson was soundless as if all the humans of the world were asleep. She walked from the window closing the tall burgundy curtains and looked at herself in the mirror. She stared at her emerald eyes and at her full pink lips. Her hair was in a elegant bun and one strand of it hung down her porcelain cheek. She wore a black ball gown with red lacy designs. She was getting ready for the vampire masquerade that all the immortals of the Abyss had to attend. She walked over to the vanity and grabbed her silver necklace of a lock and a key. It shined when it hit the light. Beautiful, she said in her head. “ Yes indeed.” She jumped and turned around in one fluid movement. She grinned showing her pearly white canines when she saw Jason standing in the doorway with the door ajar. She walked over to him and grabbed her mask from his hand. He made it himself. “ Where have you been? The ball is about to start.” She walked over to her bed and grabbed her jacket. She knew she didn’t need it, but she could sense rain and didn’t want to ruin her dress. He chuckled and made his way over to her. His movements were foxlike. He wrapped his lithe arms around her and took in her sweet scent. He stood there caressing her neck with his lips. Spencer’s body started to quiver at his touch. “ See anything you like?” an angelic voice filled the room. Spencer and Jason let go of each other and saw who it was. Gabriel Alighieri, the darkest daughter in the Abyss. She was wearing a sleek black dress with dark ballet shoes. Her figure was stunning. Her head was slightly tilted resting on the door. She was like a pale angel standing there, but both Jason and Spencer knew she was a real she-devil. She walked gracefully over to the two of them and looked at herself in the mirror. She grinned and stood between them. She had something for Jason, but Jason wasn’t in love with her back. “ We were just about to leave,” Jason whispered and grabbed Spencer’s hand. She hesitated a moment then let him lead her to the door. “ Let’s go Spencer.” They walked out of her room and down the long corridor. They walked down a case of stairs and walked out into the night. Gabriel watched Spencer get into Jason’s silver-gray Corvette C6 ZR1, thinking how bad she wanted that to be her. She flipped her bronze curls over her shoulders and put her mask on her face. She looked like an egyptian queen that ruled egypt and beyond. She turned around and walked out onto the balcony. She stood there on the edge holding the rails. She let go slowly, letting herself fly in the nights breeze. She drifted like a leaf falling from a tree. She landed onto the ground perfectly. True perfection, her mind started musing as she darted through the hours of darkness.  more

Resolved Question: The start of my novel. Opinions please?

This is the opening to my novel. If it's badly written, or dull, I want to know. Or does it slowly draw you in (there's not an obvious hook, I know). Grammar, sentence construction and structure - I want to know what you think. Please be honest. Thank you! She laid out the colourful skeins of embroidery threads in systematic rows according to colour, shade and depth, until the surface of the table was covered in gleaming silks. An inch of pale oak separated the groups of assorted skeins so the table was now a luminous patchwork, the blocks of colour vivid in the shabby room. In the corner, her mother, still agile, was kneeling hunched over the shears as they sliced through fabric, faded soft cotton-lawn pyjamas, crisp cotton skirts long since outgrown, the fronts and backs and sleeves of her dead husband’s well-worn shirts, confidently cutting triangles, rectangles, squares and diamonds, all by eye. Her mother did not cut curves. The overall design and pattern was achieved by arranging precise geometric shapes only. If a curve were required she would combine rectangles, triangles and squares, overlapping where necessary (which only added substance to the quilting) to give the clever illusion of a gradual arc. But the component parts were always precisely cut angular shapes. She was not an artist. She couldn’t draw a likeness with pencil or paint but she could work coloured threads and fabric expertly by hand using tiny stitches meticulously placed with the dual purpose of joining together the small pieces of fabric in pleasing colour combinations by means of intricate hand quilting on the reverse that was decorative and unique. They worked silently, concentrating on their tasks. The only sounds the steady familiar rasp of the scissors’ rhythmic action and the gentle hiss and crackle of the ray-burn stove, it’s humid warmth permeating the room. Daisy, the daughter, wants to be only that - her mother’s daughter, at this moment, on this day. Today, and over the last few days, she is seeking a return to something she has lost. Her mother instinctively knows this – there has been little conversation between them – and the stillness is comforting to them both. Having finished sorting the skeins of thread, Daisy sits gazing at all the myriad colours laid on the table. She takes her time choosing three toning shades of crimson and tucks them swiftly up her sleeve. She rises and pads across the worn flagstones to the door at the far edge of the room. With a fleeting glance towards her mother she snibs the door quietly shut and tiptoes up the stairs to her room. It is not really her room but the room where she has recently stayed, here, at her mother’s house. Now, because it alone is unchanged in her life, it feels more familiar to her than any other room, anywhere. The bed with its cold iron frame could remind her of school, but doesn’t - the quilt, chequered with brilliant azure and blues from duck egg to clear turquoise, trellis-stitched with hundreds of deep blue diamond-shaped pillows, removes any association there might have been. She wonders if her mother knows how fashionable the room is now, the original time-darkened boards varnished and scattered with two well-worn rugs. A pine chest sits under the sloping planes of the window recess, and on it stands an old French mirror, framed by ornate gilding that is chipped and flaking. Daisy opens one of the small drawers and pulls it fully out till it meets the stop. She bends her wrist upwards to stretch her fingers towards the back, feeling for the tapestry needle and the small pair of needlework scissors, stuck to the underside of the top of the chest with sticky tape, that she had hidden there years before. They’re still there, as she knew they would be. She puts the needle between her teeth and with the scissors dangling from one finger, lifts the mirror and places it on the floor to one side of the window recess. She puts the scissors and the three skeins of silk next to it on the floor. Crossing over to the bed, she tugs at the quilt and drags it across the boards to where daylight floods the room. She lays it carefully on the floor and, sitting cross-legged, drapes the quilt over her knees and now she’s inside a cosy envelope. She takes the needle from her lips and places it carefully on the floating table of multicoloured silk that tents across her knees. Her hair is tucked behind her ears in a swift unconscious movement. She shifts forward to where daylight hits the mirror and peers at her image as, one by one she begins to remove her piercings.  more

Resolved Question: Please Help! Does this sound like a good book so far?

Ok - I like writing. I need to know if you would keep reading this book. Are you into it? Ok well I need the truth so PLEASE answer this after you read the begginging of the book. I wanna get feedback!!! =) Chapter 1- “Sitting on the porch, Ay?” Jeremy came walking up towards me on the sidewalk as I sat on the porch in front of my wrecked up old house. “This your place?”, he said to me as he stood in front of me with his hands buried into his jean pockets. “Yep, you can sit next to me if you want, theres space you know”, I patted the spot next to me, inviting the boy to come sit next to me. “Nah, I gotta get moving. My dad’s carshop wants me to help design a new car. Its my specialty”, he winked at me then jumped on his skateboard and took off. I watched him skate off until I couldn’t see him or his shadow any longer. The sight of him was gorgeous. Blondish-brownish hair blowing in the wind with those baby blue eyes was just breathtaking. I couldn’t look at his face without daydreaming about a candlelit dinner on the beach with just the two of us. He was amazing. He was the most popular guy at school and to top it off, he was voted the “jock” of the school last semester. “Claire! Claire!” I heard my mother yelling. The screen door was open, which let in to the house, so I was easily able to hear her. But I didn’t respond as quick as I should have. “Brooklyn Claire Reshwindz!” My mother screamed. I hated my first name, but whenever I heard it I responded immediantly. It was probably because I didn’t want to hear it once more. Ever since the second grade I have been going by my middle name, Claire. Brooklyn just always gave me the shivers. “Yes mother!” I jumped up onto my feet and ran into the house. “Put your brothers dirty clothes into the washer. We don’t need his boxers laying freely around the house”. My mother picked up Jonah’s bushel basket of dirty clothes and handed it to me. I looked at it with a disgusted face. “Uh, are you joking?” I asked her. She shook her head and pointed to the basement door which led into the laundry room. I plugged my nose with one hand and held the basket with the other. As I went downstairs, through the left nostril I could smell cheeto’s that smelled like gym socks. “Ewww!” I squealed in a little mousy tone. “Dear?” My mother worriedly screamed. “It stinks down here!” I said as I kept walking down the stairs that felt like a mile long. When I kept walking down, I felt like it was a never ending path, it did stop smelling once I got to the few last steps but each step felt like the room was getting narrower and darker. It was scary. “Claire!” A voice screeched. The door shut behind me, I couldn’t see it close, but I heard it. I didn’t think anyone else but myself was down here, this was starting to freak me out. I turned around repetedly on the stairs. I didn’t know if I should get off the stairs and actually get onto the level of the floor. “Claire. Come over here, Claire”. The voice said, it was coming from the left of me. Without hesitation I looked around the corner, I slowly stepped off the stairs and turned to my left. It was still as pitch black as how it was before. “Hello? Can you repeat what you said?” she asked the voice. Then she heard a whisper. “Over here!” I turned the corner fully. It was still pitch black, but when the voice repeated what it had said, it sounded much closer than before. “Over where?” I was frightened but she didn’t know what was talking, it sounded like a regular teenage boy that had a fully developed low voice. “Here!” as the voice said this, I heard movement. I felt the person or thing come closer to me. Without a second passing by, it was holding me. “Don’t worry, its just Jeremy! I didn’t mean to frighten you!” He whispered in my ear. I still couldn’t see anything, but the fact of having me in Jeremy’s arms was enough for my heart to drop to the basement floor. I had so many questions for him. Like ‘How did you get into my house?’ or even ‘Why are you here?!’ “Jeremy? Jeremy Albany?” I asked just to make sure that it was him. “Yes”, he said in the cutest voice possible. “Jeremy!” I answered back in an excited tone as he kept holding me. It was awkward for a moment, but I liked the scenery and what was happening, I just wish the lights were at least dimmed. “We need to run away!” He told me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This guy had never really talked to me before, besides one day in Drama Club of last year, but that was it. And also out on the sidewalk earlier that day. I didn’t understand what was going on, it sounded like my life was getting a little bit of a romantic twist in it, I didn’t know if I was supposed to like it, but I did. “Run away? Jeremy, what are you talking about? We barely talk!” I told him. I couldn’t see his eyes but I could just picture his gorgeous face staring back at mine, this moment couldn’tve been more romantic. “We need to talk. “We need to talk. That’s the thing. We have to talk in pure privacy too, this is a secret mission. We need to get to know each other better first though”. He said, he sounded out of breath and in a hurry. I was still confused. But I agreed to this little plan he had conjectured up. “Okay?” that’s all I said back to him, I was so shocked at what was happening. I hoped that ‘OK’ was enough for him to reply back with more answers. “You need to meet me at the park tonight around 8pm, no later than that”, he told me. I just kept nodding even though I knew he couldn’t see me. He put me down on the ground since he had been holding me throughout the whole conversation. Since the room was blacked out, all I heard was him make a kissing sound(maybe he was blowing a kiss) and a window opening, before I knew it, he was gone. I ran over to the light switch and turned it on; the lights were dim then got brighter by the second. The room was now bright, and it hurt my eyes and vision. My head sta My head started to hurt with all this confusion and I laid down on the sofa to rest. Once I got up, I heard my mother yelling my full name. I quickly jumped off the sofa and put on my glasses to read the clock. It was about 15 minutes until 8:00pm. I had to hurry. “Brooklyn, are you still down there!” My mother was yelling repeatedly. “Yes, yes mother. But I have to go to the park to meet my friends in about 15 minutes, ok?” I asked her. I didn’t know what she was going to say, but I was just going to have to escape someway if she didn’t let me go. She didn’t respond so I had to bug her. “Mom, please! Everyone is going to be there!” I begged. “Since when do you go to these kinds of social things?” she asked me as I walked up the stairs, heading into the kitchen where she was. “Since now. Just please mother, this once?” I asked, still in the begging mode. “Fine, but who all is going to be there? And which park?” she asked. “Just the park that’s down the road, and I don’t know everyone who is going to be there but I know for sure that Valentine and Lenay are going to be there!” I lied, and I knew that I was going to have to from the start; I just had to go and find out what my all-time crush wanted from me. I knew that it had to be something super important. I couldn’t just ditch him. “Valentine Renolds and Lenay Norris? The girls who claim they are witch’s? Come on now Claire”, my mother said to me. I did the puppy dog face because I knew she would always fall for it. There was silence for a minute until my mother spoke up. “Fine. Be back in an hour!” she told me. I rolled my eyes then hugged her. Before I knew it I was on my way to the park, about to go see my love. I wondered if he was going to tell me that he liked me or even loved me. I knew that this was going to be a big night. Once I got to the park, I sat on the swings waiting for him. The wind was blowing hard, so I through my hair up even though it looked nasty when it was pulled back. “Claire? Claire?” I heard his voice, but I didn’t see him. I kept looking after I answered back with a sweet and decent “Yeah?” And there he was, coming up the sidewalk. He looked so cute in his ripped jeans, and his long throw on shirt. I was trying to not daydream about him, but it was too hard and unmanageable. “Hey Claire!” He said as he sat on the swing right next to me. “You’re looking good tonight”, he winked at me. I thought I was going to just drop to the ground. “Not so bad yourself!” I said as I thought ‘Not so bad, Claire, are you kidding yourself?!?! He’s amazing!’ “So, when are you planning to come with me. Do you even know what’s going on?” he asked me as he pulled his swing closer to mine, we were looking straight into each others eyes, this felt so romantic. I didn’t reply, because I was imagining us together as boyfriend and girlfriend, couples, I thought that the match was perfect, that he was THE one. “Claire?” He said as he lifted up my chin, making our eyes connect. “Um, yeah…I’m kind of puzzled. I have no idea what is going on. We’ve barely talked, like ever!” I told him exactly what I knew I should’ve. “Ok, you’re going to think I am made of pure craziness. But this is the truth…” he said. He kept pausing after every other word. I felt like he didn’t even know what was going on either, but I was going to listen to him anyways! “Keep going…?” I sounded very perplexed. But I did want to know the truth, so I didn’t want him to keep pausing; I just wanted all the words to come out in a deluge of great news. “You’re my other half!” He said as he sighed and looked down at the floor. The meaning was great, but it wasn’t a long explanation, I needed to know why we had to run away. “Your other half? Meaning, we were made for each other?” I bet I sounded completely idiotic, but I had the right to know what was happening. “We ARE made for each other” he corrected me. “Ok, well I kind of already thought that in my own mind”, I whispered to myself. “What?” it seemed like he tried to make out what I just said, but I quickly said “Forget it.” “Ok, well why do we have to supposedly run away?” I asked him. We were still looking into one and others eyes. It was like the perfect night to do this too, the sun was setting, and the moon was peeking out. The breeze was just perfect, and everything that he was saying sounded just excellent. “Because, you don’t understand how we were made for each other. You haven’t found out yet. You’re parents probably haven’t told you any of this yet”. He told me. I looked so confused, I had no idea what this boy was talking about. He looked so cute when he was talking, so I thought I was just the one that was getting lost into the conversation, but I knew I was actually listening. ‘My parents don’t even know this’ I thought to myself. It was true, they had no idea I was at a park with a boy I had barely spoken to before “They don’t know what?” I said, scooting more near him, but trying to not make it that obvious. He sighed. It was a very quick one, but I heard it peep out. “What?” I asked again. I had always been a very impatient little girl. “You…you were adopted”. He looked down and shook his head. He looked embarrass that he had told me this nonsense fact, and I knew it couldn’t be true. “No, no I wasn’t”. I told him. He looked at me then looked down again, it was as if he couldn’t even look into my eyes anymore. The romantic side of the story and fallen, and now it was just a mystery.  more

Ok, so I enjoy writing. I started writing this book just out of the blue and want to know if any of you think it sounds good so far. I know that i dont have a lot done, but just tell me if you would keep reading it! =) Ok here it is. !Chapter 1! “Sitting on the porch, Ay?” Jeremy came walking up towards me on the sidewalk as I sat on the porch in front of my wrecked up old house. “This your place?”, he said to me as he stood in front of me with his hands buried into his jean pockets. “Yep, you can sit next to me if you want, theres space you know”, I patted the spot next to me, inviting the boy to come sit next to me. “Nah, I gotta get moving. “Over here!” Claire turned the corner fully. It was still pitch black, but when the voice repeated what it had said, it sounded much closer than before. “Over where?” Claire was frightened but she didn’t know what was talking, it sounded like a regular teenage boy that had a fully developed low voice. Just email me for more. And that wasnt the end of the chapter. Email is = modeling_baylie03@yahoo.com And also , here is some more of the chapter from where i left off. “Claire!” A voice screeched. Resolved Question: I have no idea what's on my walls!?

My boyfriend and I just bought a 1937 Cape Cod style home. There is this decorative wall lining on the walls surrounding the stairs and entry. It is lifting up in certain sections and we THINK its plaster over a very thin, possibly veneer, sheet of wood. Its been applied in panels and there is a decorative strip in between each sheet. The panels have a decorative flower motif all over them and at the top, its like a wainscotting, is a leaf border. At first glance I thought it was textured wall paper that you paint to bring out the design embossed on it, but on further inspection we found that it is REALLY stuck to the wall. Whether its original or not, I'm not very fond of it, and I have NO idea how to even begin to remove this without destroying the walls. I really want to know what this could be and how to get it off the wall. The border appears to be nailed on and the rest is stuck on the wall. There is a part of the wall where one of the panels is entirely missing and there is no separation between the remaining panels and the wall, which is why we think its plaster. We were able to find a piece of the border on the floor and the wood backing is visible. The actual panels are veeeeery thin, but still sturdy. Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: What do you think it is?

Ok, so a few years back my friend bought a brand new 3 bedroom town house and moved in. It wasn’t the greatest place (badly designed), and not in the best area either, but it was his. After he settled, I moved into the room down the hall from him. From the first night I stayed there I noticed a few weird things; Hearing someone walking up the stairs and around the second floor. Hearing people talking coming from the third bedroom (which was the study). People seemingly appearing, then disappearing in the front room. When he bought a brand new stereo, it worked fine for a few months, then all of a sudden it would switch on and the volume would turn right up, for no apparent reason (even the remote was sitting on the coffee table). What are your thoughts on these phenomena? Edit: We have investigated it and known what it is, but I'm interested in what you guys think...  more
