To start out with, I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. They're lyrics are extremely well written, and they're concept albums Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall (Great movie by the way) are simply brilliant. I'm getting to that point in my life where I am sort of phasing out all the mindless music I used to listen to. I'd just like to hear some opinions on artists that you think would best suit my condition. Please don't hold back, I listen to everything. Rap, Pop, Electronica, some Metal (please avoid Death Metal/Thrash Metal) I can never get in to any of that. Go into more of the unknown region of music, because I've more than likely heard all of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s popular bands I'll List the Artists on my Itunes A-Ha AC/DC Ace Ace of Base (Childhood music, lay off) Aerosmith Air Supply Akon (just so damn catchy) Alice Cooper Alicia Keys Amber Anthony Hamilton Asher Roth (Horrible I know, I keep it on for the sheer lulz) Atmosphere Audioslave Autopilot Off Bad Company Barry Manilow Beach Boys The Beatles Belinda Carlisle Berlin Bill Burr(Comedy routine) Billy Joel Billy Squier Black Sabbath The Bloodhound Gang Blue Oyster Cult Bob Dylan (Great) Bob Marley (Great Also) Bob Seger Bobby Womack Bon Jovi Bone-Thugz-N-Harmony Boston Buffalo Springfield Carpenters The Caesers The Champs Chris Cornell Chris De Burgh Cinderella Cowsillis The Cranberries Cream Crowded House Cutting Crew Damn Yankees Dave Chappelle (comedy routine) Dave Matthews band David Bowie Death Cab For Cutie Deep Side Def Leppard (def leppard sucks. I have three playlists that I am quite proud of: 1)"Carpe Noctem" which are my favorite songs written about the night. Features "I Love a Rainy Night", "We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger, "Because the Night" by Patti Smith, "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues, among others. 2) "Songs to Die By" are mostly novelties. Nothing too depressing, just songs dealing with death. "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" by Elton John, "I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight", "Another One Bites the Dust", "Live and Let Die", ect. 3) "For COPS" which are songs that I would want to be used if I were caught on film during a high-speed car chase. It features a lot of instrumental music. Does anyone have any other cool, unique playlists? As you can tell, I'm not interested in the usual, boring 'Love Songs' and '80's Party Hits' junk :D I'm also open to suggestions for my three playlists :) moreResolved Question: I'm going to buy some songs for my new iPod... which songs do you suggest?

Please don't suggest heavy metal type rock, rap, hip-hop, classical, or blue grass or anything like that ha ha. Besides that, everything else is fine. Can you give me a list of good songs to download? Thanks! I'll choose best answer soon. I don't like pop either- lol moreResolved Question: I'm listening to my Beatles albums,is there a way of telling if the song is sung by John,Paul,George or Ringo?

I've recently heard Asher Roth's (yes, the white suburb kid who sings about college) "His Dream" song and it brought me to tears: it had so much depth, emotion and meaning behind it, it was beautiful. Do you know any songs that carry the theme of dreams, goals, and ambitions? Songs that inspire you to never give up on your dream and protect it no matter what happens to you? Dreams are important to me; I believe without them we would be nothing more than dead, empty souls, and I would love to find music that reflects that. So far my list [only] includes: - Kanye West - I Wonder - R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly - T.I feat. John Legend - Slideshow - Asher Roth - His Dream If you could add to this list any song that reminds you of dreams (ambitions) I would highly appreciate that and it would go a long way. MEXICO CITY – Televisa is cutting all "nonessential" kisses from its soap operas. A song called the "Influenza Cumbia" is climbing the charts. Cringe-worthy swine flu jokes are spreading faster than the illness ever could. As Mexicans lock themselves inside in fear of the virus, they can't help but have a little fun with it as well. The surgical masks that Mexicans have donned by the millions have become canvases for creativity, with some adorning their protective coverings with painted-on monkey mouths, outsized mustaches or "kissy lips." Newspapers offer smiley cutouts for people to paste to their masks, and some drivers have fashioned masks for their cars. Dog lovers walk the streets of Mexico City with matching masks for their pooches, though doctors have yet to confirm that chihuahua-to-chihuahua transmission is a major public health threat. Mexico's ebullient, spontaneous culture is still trying to adjust to the new anti-flu campaign, in which kissing, hugging, handshakes, eating on the street and standing in crowded places — all part of daily life in this city of 20 million — are now discouraged. There might not be much traffic on Mexico City's streets, but gallows humor about what some call "The Aporkalypse" has been circulating around the metropolis. "Did you hear that Mexico has become a world power?" goes one joke. "When it sneezes, the whole world gets the flu." Mexico's music culture has also embraced a lighthearted approach to the epidemic. The band Agrupacion Carino came out with the song "Influenza Cumbia" just two days after the health alert was issued. The lyrics are not the most sophisticated, with references to Superman and Indiana Jones. "It's better to commit suicide with tacos," the singer croons to a bouncy synthesizer. "They say it's the perfect flu. They don't know Mexico City folks live in the smog." And like swine flu, dark humor has spread beyond Mexico's borders. A U.S. company has rolled out T-shirts featuring a pig-shaped Mexican flag. "I went to Mexico and all I got was swine flu," it reads. And of course the Internet is alive with dark, swine-flu fun. In a game called "SwineFighter," players blast viral-looking piggies with a hypodermic needle. And what global catastrophe would be complete without its own Facebook page? Actually, "Swine Flu" has several pages on the popular social networking site. The most popular — set up April 26 with a profile picture of a cute white pig — has accumulated more than 20,000 fans. The page's creator, who identifies himself only as John, boasts on the page: "There's more people infected on Facebook than in real life." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090501/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_swine_flu_humor moreResolved Question: What are some AWESOME songs to add to my iTunes playlist?

I am in 11th grade, and I go to a rich/very annoying high school. I have (or used to have) a good group of friends. School work has become annoying, il been pushing myself too hard in the past year and need a break badly (my summer last year kind of sucked due to school/other matters) and honestly cannot wait until the summer starts. However, I am depressed because pretty much all of my friends have gotten into the drug/drinking scene. I sort of got into it but pulled out quickly (due to my very strict parents mainly. I feel like they are doing me good and saving me, but at the same time I feel like they are pulling me back from enjoying high school. You can say I am glad, but also not glad that they care about me so much.) So anyways I have become very depressed on weekdays/week nights. My friends are doing things without me now. I have a good amount of school work that I have been putting off because I am so depressed. I don't know what to do. Finding new friends seems impossible as well because its so late in the school year, pretty much everyone drinks/does drugs, and the people who don't I just dont like because they are just not my type of people. My school is very cliquey. In the next month and a half I have about 6 standardized tests (SAT 2/SAT/AP exams/ACT) and I feel like I wont be ready because I am putting off studying for them/normal school work. On the bright side I am looking forward to getting a good summer job outside, and possibly just putting off the SAT/ACT until the beginning of senior year, but I am still not sure. Any tips for me? Btw, I do have one really good friend outside of the other ones. He stopped hanging out with my other friends after they did get into the whole drug thing, and takes lots of time doing his homework/other EC stuff (I dont know how he does it) but he still gets very busy at times. To put things into perspective, this is what I found about my school on urbandictionary.com I feel like this just nailed it perfectly. "A school that spawns So Low wearing, Starbucks drinking, lacrosse playing, blackberry using, facebook addictied, grade worrying, Dave Mattew's Band listening, ***** partying, ****** clubbing, Jewish practicing, nice car driving, sex having, weed smoking, mindless alcoholic douche bags that just follow the latest trend and who think they are the celebrities of the world, when in reality, the only people that like them live in the asshole capital of the US, the mainline. And even then, their overly dramatic friends all find ways to hate on each other cause they have nothing better to do. All the black kids think they are cold, hard gangsters, and all the white kids think they are athletic and suave. Every one follows the same trends, and noone thinks for themselves. All kids do on the weekends is drink and then talk about it the following monday like its the first time Julie passed out and the cops came. People here also go to concerts frequently, but not for the music, just as an excuse to get drunk again. If you want to hate your life in 4 years or less, I suggest you go to this school. What are some good bands/singers that play acoustic or soft rock type of music? I'd prefer recent bands. I really like the styles of John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, The Plain White T's, etc. moreResolved Question: American music lovers...do you ignore your own composers?
Yesterday, my wife and I were listening to a CD of the MacDowell piano concertos. Hardly earth-shattering works, but definitely a very pleasant change to the usual warhorses. And that made me think. If MacDowell is mentioned on this board (where, I guess, the majority are American), it is for one piece, 'To a Wild Rose'. Which made me think more. American composers generally get a poor showing here. Of course, we hear mention of Aaron Copland and less often Samuel Barber.. I've also seen one or two references to Charles Griffes ('The White Peacock') and Ferde Grofe, and occasionally Howard Hanson and Charles Ives. But what about the lady, Amy Beach? Where are David Diamond, Alan Hovhaness, William Schuman, Walter Piston, Virgil Thompson, John Alden Carpenter (with his 'Adventures in a Perambulator'), William Grant Still (thought to be the first black composer of note). Or (and getting a little more obscure) the 19th century's George Templeton Strong, Elie Siegmeister (with Copland, a Nadia Boulanger pupil) or the 'Dean' of West Coast composers, George Frederick McKay. I'm not saying these composers are amongst the greatest, but they have all written some pieces worth a hearing. Do Americans know of them, do they listen to them? I know there are many more composers than those mentioned. I just didn't want to make an inordinately long list. Yet later. To those who are concerned about the availability of American music on disc, can I refer them to this page:-http://www.musicweb-international.com/Themed_releases/Naxos_American/Naxos_American_Classics_index.htm. It lists discs by the composers I have named and others I omitted but who have been mentioned in answers and yet others who no one has mentioned. Oh, and no Morton Lauridsen, whose music I was delighted to discover a few years back. moreResolved Question: Which of these artists do you like? Would you say this is good taste in music or diverse?

(Mature responses please.)?
I am at a state of confusion because of my relationships with two men. I love them both dearly. However, I am afraid that I am "in love" with only one of them, but through an illusion. Let me explain in as full detail as I can. My current boyfriend, "John", and I have been together for almost two years. We both are in college and live in separate apartments in the same neighborhood. He is 26 and I just turned 21. I feel like my relationship with John is only on one level. We both are musicians, artists, and work very hard to live fruitfully as young students. He is to any woman, a "keeper", because he is handsome, intelligent, responsible, romantic, passionate, sensitive and also caring. He is madly in love with me and wants to be with me for a very long time. It is hard to find in my mind/heart why I am not deeply in love with him. John has introduced me to his endless circle of friends but he hasn't introduced me to his family who lives only ten minutes away from me. We have been together for a while too so this factor is so strange to me. His reasons for not introducing me to his family are very peculiar... I notice the little things he does that really make me upset. We usually have drastically different point of views on our arguments as we are both very strong and stubborn people. Over the last few months, our arguments have increased to the point where I do not feel fulfilled and free to be myself around him. Our arguments sometimes are verbally violent, but never physically. Whenever we communicate to each other after our arguments, we both come up with solutions that only last for a week. This results in a cycle of continuous similar arguments. I am unhappy and frustrated being with John even though he really does sometimes go out of his way to cheer me up. But lately, I've noticed that he has become much more selfish. He is always late and his excuses are constantly about not noticing how much time goes by. I give so much to John because I want him to succeed. If he needs time in the studio, I willingly let him have his space even though deep down inside, I want him to spend time with me. John sees things in black and white, and I see in between. Five years ago, before I met John, I met "Bob" through a mutual friend. At the time, Bob was 29 and I was 16. For the next six months, we would casually visit each other. He introduced me to a new world of possibilities-- music, art, films, places, cuisine-- things that I couldn't have discovered without meeting Bob. Our chemistry was so strong, that our platonic relationship was dwindling down towards awkward sexual tension. Bob and I felt incredibly demoralized, before taking any illegal advances on each other, we both decided that it would be best to not see each other until "the future". To this day, Bob and I have been communicating via chatting/phone about everything, except for our feelings for each other nearly every day. We talk about work, dreams, problems, little events, and even giving each other relationship advice and always asking each other about our other significant others. When I think of him, he is colourful and exciting. Six months ago, Bob and I reunited in physical form for the first time in about 4 years. Bob was in a long distance relationship with a woman who lived miles away on the other side of the states. Both of them were not doing too well. Coincidentally, John and I had problems at the time too. That night, Bob and I kissed for the first time. We were both inebriated but the experience I can remember well. That night was exhilarating. I woke up the next morning in Bob's bedroom. Both of us ended up feeling incredibly guilty for cheating on our other partners. I cried because I hurt John. Bob and I decided to keep it a secret from both of our other lovers. Last night, Bob called me to tell me that his girlfriend of two years, the one who lived on the other coast, just dumped him. I asked him if he was alright, and he said that he was confused and not necessarily sad. I asked him why, and deep down in my heart I already knew what he was going to say next. He told me that I am always on his mind and still likes me. He wanted to see me as soon as possible. He proceeded to say things that just melted my heart, things that reminded me of how caring he is and how much we've shared with each other. However, I am afraid that Bob is an illusion because I only speak to him through our technology. I am afraid that he will be a different person in reality because through online chatting, there is a barrier. Even though I think this, I am willing to take chances. Perhaps too abruptly. I am on the verge of breaking up with John to be with Bob. Throughout that conversation, Bob constantly had to remind himself that I still had a boyfriend even though he wanted to see me that night. On another note, I am stressing out about where I will live in the next few months. John applied for a job out in Europe and is waiting fo moreResolved Question: What should me theme song for life be?

Please tell me what you think of this, I worked hard on making it sound real and genuine. Remember, it's just the opening so I still have alot more to do. But I'll post some more tomorrow. Thanks. DIE HARD 5 Opening Credits Fade In: Ext. New York Skyline- Dawn The city stands in the morning daybreak; distant at first. Sirens can be heard from miles away as we move closer to the landmark buildings and structures. After a few beats, the noise dims to almost silence. Ext. Times Square- Intersections/Sidewalks Cars and taxis lag behind one another in heaps of slow moving traffic, as thousands of civilians scurry and dominate sidewalks and crosswalks on route to their homes or work. Other travelers are seen entering/exiting storefronts carrying plastic shopping bags, while the accasional smokers sit on benches puffing their lives away or talking on cellphones. On the corner, the usual street venders attempt to stop people walking buy with the tentalizing aroma of their newest ‘product’. A fairly basic day in the Big Apple. Cut: Ext. New Jersey Street- House A decent-looking bricked house surrounded by a low-level fence. We see a parked blue SUV in the driveway, four-door. On the opposite side rests a grey Toyota Tundra. Some neighborhood kids are exiting their homes with backpacks and heading for the bustop for school. They chat exitedly as they walk, friendly. Int. Upstairs Bedroom Sunlight sneaks through a bedroom window, illuminating the shadows more clearly. As we pan across the room, we stop at a nightstand with an alarm clock, digital, sitting atop it. It reads 8:29 am—then changes to 8:30 as music suddenly comes on; It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. Grunts are heard nearby, followed by a hand coming into view and trying to turn off the clock, to no avail. Voice- (tired, annoyed)- Ah…shi-What in hell is that shit? Fucking hate Jovi… The voice is of a man laying in bed, apparently trying to sleep. He finally presses the snooze alarm, but the whole device falls off the table to the floor, nearly-broken. At least the song stopped. Hearing this, he slowly gets up with his back turned to us and picks up the radio/clock to check it, then sets it back where it belongs. Groggy, he stands up wearing a faded white tank-top and dark slacks, and walks to the bathroom. Back still turned. Int. Table- Pictures As he passes a table, we notice some framed pictures lined up next to each other of a family; a mother, daughter and son. The son and daughter seem to be in their late teens, both with dark hair. The mother looks slightly middle-aged with brown hair and wearing a sweater. They look somewhat happy in the photos. Assumingly, this must be people the man knows very well. Next to the photos lie some framed awards of some importance, but the details of them are hard to see in the dark light. One could read from the Department of National Security. Int. Bathroom Mirror. The man enters and turns on the sink faucet, but we only see his mid, somewhat-muscular, torso. As he picks up a red toothbrush and sqeezes toothpast onto it, we pan up just in time as he brings it up to his mouth to reveal…John Mcclane, late-forties, gently brushing his teeth with some paste dripping from his lips. He smirks at this, leans down to spit it out, then raises his head back up to the mirror and looks at himself briefly. Mcclane-(calmly to himself) Yeah, john. Treat everyday like it’s your last. But don’t kill yourself over fuckin toothpaste. (laughs) Closing the mirror, he walks out with a towel over his shoulder. Int. Table Noticing the photos, Mcclane goes up to the table and picks one up…the family one. Looking at it, he smiles then puts it down and walks away. On the other side, we see various items from his department; his NYPD gold-plated badge, along with his 9mm Beretta handgun, the 12-round clip laying beside it. Now the awards seem clear; they’re Mcclane’s. The DNS award reads; The Department of National Security awards New York City Detective John Mcclane for his heroic display of incredible courage and bravery in the prevention of the hostage situation that took place at Nakatomi Co. on December 24th, 1988 in Las Angeles, California. We thank him sincerely, and hope that further events can be avoided due to many innocent civilians lives that were lost on that evening. We forever acknoweledge your insparation to every law enforcement in this country. Dated 2-21-89. So? Well, thanks for the responses at least, LOL. Anyway, I purposely didn't start the script with action cause I wanted to sorta use the Die Hard 2 formula a little....where Mcclane is seen going about his day but encounters the situation on almost-accident. You know, I felt that this way by describing him in his home, that it would be more proper than just throwing in some action. Sorry, I just wanted some character moment, LOL. I'll post part 2 today, so come back! moreResolved Question: Help with music questions?!?

I am a solo artist writing material for a new album and went to an open mic night to play a few songs and listen to the musical climate of this small city. I was surprised to hear every act that got up to play was a complete Jack Johnson, John Mayer, white boy blues rip-off it was really mind-numbing. I do like both of those guys but it is out of control how everyone with an acoustic guitar now tries to emulate them. When I played my songs, which were a little more alt-country folk, but doesn't fit any current genre well, people seemed like they were waiting for me to play a blues scale and bust in to your body is wonderland...
