Open Question: How do I burn ISO's onto CD's?

Well, I have been trying to get this game called Homeworld 2 to work on my PC for a long time. I make backup ISO's for my games so incase they break I can just use the ISO instead of buying a new copy. My Homeworld 2 disk broke and DEP doesn't like the no CD EXE's for Homeworld 2. I also can't seem to get any virtual drives that will imitate a real ISO mount. So I was wondering if there was a way I could burn the ISO onto the CD in a way the drive would read it like the original disk, PLEASE HELP ME.  more

Open Question: Could someone please help me with Windows XP Activation (WPA)?

I've activated before, and I've backed up wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files. After reinstalling Windows, I booted up in safe mode and placed the backup files in system32. After I rebooted, the wpa.dbl reverted to pre-activation status (i.e. the backup file didn't kick in). What did I do wrong? There is no hardware change and I'm 100% sure I've copied the old wpa files correctly. And yes, I did it in safe mode.  more

Open Question: Folder and file copy programs-using TeraCopy?

Am not able to figure out if TeraCopy can do what I want and am unable to register and ask them questions because using the free version. Example: I periodically back a folder called "Stock Info" onto a USB stick. In Windows I do this by doing a copy and paste of "Stock Info" from my C: drive to the USB, which already contains the same folder. New files in the folder are automatically copied into the backup folder-no problem. What I need from TeraCopyis for already existing files which have been appended since my last update to be automatically targeted and appended while files which have not changed to be automatically left alone without the program pausing and asking for instructions. Can this be achieved by setting protocals on TeraCopy copy and paste operation or is it necessary to manually do individual file selections beforehand?  more

Resolved Question: Reinstalled my p2p program and now my torrent always starts fresh, I want it to continue from where I left it?

Ok to make things clearer I had to reinstall Vista. I had a torrent about 92% and it was a big file. I copied over the installer file (which was in my downloads folder) and the folder with all the downloaded data (which was stored on the desktop) on my backup folder. Now what happened was I placed them back as before in their respective places now when I try and load the installer file it just starts a new download and on the desktop a new folder is created even though the old one exists. With the same name, but the new one got a different thing at the end so what I did, I copied that (the whole name, and while the program was shut) and renamed the old folder like that and deleted the new one made but it still is downloading from the beginning. Anything I can do? hopefully I didn't confuse you. Let me know if you need any more details! It leads to the folder I renamed which has all the files from before, so how does it not register that a certain volume was downloaded already? Is it rewriting the files or simply not registering what I downloaded already so therefore making the transfer amount and percentage wrong? Oh btw I use Ares which is very different to just a torrent software but it's like bittorrent, well the stuff behind it is the same just it's also a regular p2p program.  more

Open Question: What is the difference between DVD+RW and DVD-RW?

What is the difference between DVD+RW and DVD-RW? I don't need to know the history and stuff like that, I just need to know the pros and cons between the two. If yes, what's the difference there - they would be used for the same uses as listed above and audio CDs?  more

Open Question: i have a problem with microsoft word?

when i open microsoft work 2003 a message box appears saying: The Visual basic enviroment could not be initialized This error is usually due to insufficient memory or low disk space.  It also occurs when the default Word template (normal.dot) is corrupt, the VBE6.DLL file is the wrong version, or permissions to the Temp folder on a server share do not allow access to the folder by the user. Low memory or disk space can be solved by either closing unused applications, de-installing unused programs or files from the hard drive, or by adding RAM or a larger hard drive.  In some cases, a memory leak may have been encountered and is consuming RAM without your knowledge.  If you suspect a memory leak is the problem, shut down Word and VBA and restart the computer. Rename the normal.dot file and restart Microsoft Office Word. When you exit Word, Word will rebuild a new normal.dot file.  If you have a backup of the normal.dot, you can replace the defective one with the backup copy instead of having Word repair the file. If the VBE6.DLL is not the correct version, replace it. If the network permissions are inadequate for access to a TEMP folder on a server share, consult the administrator and determine if the permissions can be changed.  Otherwise, redirect VB to use a local Temp folder. More information about this error message online. does anybody know how to solve this?? oh and i do have enough memory and i'm on vista  more

Open Question: How do I get Robocopy to do a full backup?

Okay, there has to be a way to do a full backup with RoboCopy. I'm defining a full backup as copying ALL files from SOURCE to DESTINATION and resetting ALL SOURCE files' ARCHIVE attribute. Robocopy's default copies all files from the SOURCE but does NOT reset the ARCHIVE attribute. "/A-:[RASHNT] :: remove the given Attributes from copied files" removes the ARCHIVE attribute from the files in DESTINATION (not SOURCE). "/A :: copy only files with the Archive attribute set" doesn't copy all files from SOURCE. "/M :: copy only files with the Archive attribute and reset it" doesn't copy all files from SOURCE. Yeah, I can issue an ATTRIB -A /S command but is that the only work around? I'd rather ROBOCOPY since it's the application doing the backup.  more

Resolved Question: What all is backed up when you run the PS3 Backup Utility?

I've seen several posts on here and around the web that say that "everything" is backed up, but what does everything mean? In particular, I want to know if both the Game Data and the Game Save Data are covered by the backup utility. I am confused about this because maby people have had questions about backing up the GameSave data by itself. Also, will this backup my music and photos that I have on there, or will I need to do that myself? Lastly, in regard to protected files, will the backup utility still make a copy to my storage device (an FAT32 encrypted external Hard drive)? I believe that the Rock Band files are copy protected and I do not wish to lose those (I've literally spent days' worth of time playing that game). I'm going to upsize my hard drive this week and want to know if anything needs to be saved manually,  more

Voting Question: I need help copying my iPhone to a new computer?

I had my iPhone (3G) sync'd up with my old computer & iTunes. Unfortunately, that computer bit the dust & there is no way to access that old iTunes. When previously sync'd up with said dead computer, 1500 pictures were put on my iPhone (I want them there for backup) from my old computer though iTunes. When I downloaded iTunes on my new computer, it's telling me that everything is going to be erased off my phone. I don't want to lose my music, my apps, my contacts, and (most importantly) my photos. I've spoken with an Apple rep on the phone and was told that there's no way to get it off the phone without using a 3rd party software & that Apple doesn't recommend that. I can access the camera roll (the pictures I've taken with the phone) just fine through camera & scanner wizard. I cannot access the Photo Library. I've tried a few 3rd party software systems to no avail (File Aid/Disk Aid seems to be the answer- but it's not picking up any files on my iPhone, I think I'm missing a step somewhere). I know that I can upload each picture to a site (ie Flickr) one by one, but I have 1500 pictures and I'd realllllly like to NOT have to do that. Also, I would prefer to no lose all of my other data (apps, contacts, settings, music) on this phone. Oh, and I would like to upgrade to the 3.0 OS....but I'm scared I'll lose everything. Help me, please. Please, please, please!  more

Resolved Question: How can I start a system program on a limited account?

What i'm trying to do - I want to backup some files from my school network. They are shared files so some are in use, so copying was pointless. I downloaded this program on my PC at home called 'ShadowCopy' which can copy programs in use, which it did on my home PC, I was just using the directory file from 'My Programs' which I cut to my flash drive (this is because I couldn't install on the school pc's), working fine. It also started up fine on the school PC's. Problem - When I select 'copy' on ShadowCopy, a message comes up 'Could not intialize Windows volume shadow service (vss). Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager.' I know its because I am on a limited account it is not running as I have this same problem when I go on my limited account at home. I know the file is in 'system 32', I tried to start it up by clicking on it, pointless as nothing happened. So how can I run this program 'VSSVC.EXE'? I am running windows xp sp2 both at home and school (if it matters) also I do not know a person with administrator rights. Help would be much appreciated!  more

Resolved Question: how do you dowmload this game?

alright im in a website thats called ps3gamessaves.com im downloading a game call grand theft auto IV but i dont get the directions how to download the game plz i will give u the directions the site gave me to download it and plz refrase it for me here it is1. Download the Save Game zipped file 2. Unzip to a USB drive / external hdd using this path in front of the unzipped folder: PS3\SAVEDATA\ 3. Once you plug it in to the PS3, go to XMB\GAMES\Saved Data Utility, not Game Data Utility. Once you select Saved Data Utility, it should show your USB drive as one of the selections. When you select that, your saved game icons should automatically open up. Select the game save you want to transfer, then hit Triangle. The panel will have Copy as one of the options. When you select that, it will automatically copy the game save to the PS3 hard drive. TIP: Make a backup of your own save files before copying from the USB stick. Some game saves asks you to overwrite the exisitng save. For the most part you can have multiple saves for the same game. Don't mind the autogenerated name for the zip file. Please inform us if saves isn't working correctly. those were the directions help plz thank you  more

Voting Question: How do I "un- jailbreak" (aka "jail") my iPod Touch?

It shouldn't be important, but here's some extra info: - iPod Touch 2G - 3.0 Firmware - Used Cydia, not Installer - iTunes 8.0 (I think. 8- something) Ok, so if I ever decide to reset my jailbroken iPod to factory defaults, I just plug it into my computer, go onto iTunes, and hit restore right? Then I can put the back-up files onto it to get all my songs and stuff? **Well one problem.** Every time you plug in your iPod to iTunes, iTunes will make a backup copy of the data on your iPod, correct? Well that could be a problem if I want to add music to my jailbroken iPod. If I do, iTunes will make a backup, **which includes all my jailbreak-linked content**. Therefore I will not be able to transfer my backed-up data to my iPod to return it to its original form, because the back-up itself has jailbroken content! What do I do?! I knew I was wrong about something. Okay, so as some of you have said, if I restore my iPod, all I get back are my settings, photos, etc. I know music will not be a problem, since every song on my iPod - and then some - are all on my computer. So let me clarify... the apps that I acquire via my installer (Cydia) will not be restored (which would be a good thing)? And since I **did** install the "Categories" app, which allows me to put my apps into folders, what should I do to regain them? Someone said that old apps will not be restored, except the ones that are on iTunes (I synced them, so that's no problem). Are you saying that I have to move the apps out of their folders before restoring?  more

Resolved Question: HP_Recovery (D:) almost completely full, yet when trying to open it, says that the folder is empty?

I am having some serious trouble out of my computer! I know that I have been trying to clean up some files, photos and documents on my computer in order to create a backup disc. I'm pretty sure that the recovery drive is full because there is a shadow copy hidden in there. When trying to create a back up disc, it says that there isn't enough room on the recovery drive. But as I said, it's EMPTY! Says there is only 43.3 MB free out of 7.35 GB, the storage cell is red on the "Computer" screen, I double click on it and it says, "This folder is empty." It makes absolutely no sense to me! I've cleared tons of space on C:, I've tried like crazy to delete pictures, word documents, empty files, unused games and such and nothing helps with the recovery drive. I've tried to put that on a disc, and of course, since it's empty, it will not go to a disc! Can anyone please help me? I have two other questions up pertaining to these problems I've had, if you check them out as well, you may be able to learn a little more about what's going on~  more

Voting Question: How can I fix my vista after registry cleaning cleaned too much?

Hello there, friendo. Alrighty, so I thought my Vista laptop was running a little slowly, so I somehow came to the conclusion that I should clean the registry and speed 'er up. However, after using a registry cleaner (Eusing Free Registry Cleaner) there seems to be some glitches in the system. The laptop can't detect any wireless networks, certain windows just won't open when I click on them, such as the control panel. I tried to do a system restore, but it claims that "the Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working." There was an option to backup my registry before hand and I did that, but even after selecting to restore the original registry, nothing happens. Any ideas of what may be able to fix my laptop, preferably without losing all of my files?  more

Resolved Question: this is how you hack the samsung a series phone!?

Now the information I obtained was the easiest and/or most effective way to install Java mobile phone games on the Samsung SGH-a737 mobile phone. Items needed: 1. Samsung SGH-a737 phone and usb phone to pc cable. This phone uses a Qualcomm chipset. 2. Bitpim – I use Bitpim v1.06 – All future versions should work. 3. Qualcomm usb drivers. – This was hard to find. “Qualcomm_USB_Trieber.rar” – They are actually modem drivers or at least that is what they show up as on the pc. 4. The engineer code number *#0523# This is the only number needed to access the phone. There is another number that functions the same. That number is longer and not needed. Now for the steps involved. 1. Install Bitpim. Reboot the PC. 2. Enter *#0523# into the phone. This will bring up a menu. Press the # key four (4) times. Press menu option [9] common. Next press menu option [6] USB Configuration. Next press [2] Qualcomm USB. The default is [1] Samsung USB. Qualcomm USB is needed to make Bitpim function. After that the screen will read. Qualcomm USB configured. Plz reconnect the cable.0 Reboot the phone for the change to initiate. 3. Install the Qualcomm usb drivers. Plug in the phone to the pc. When the PC asks for drivers. Point to the folder where the files where unzipped. The computer will find two sets of drivers. The first is the USB set and when that is finished. The PC will ask again for drivers. Again point to the folder where the drivers where unzipped. This will be the modem diagnostic drivers. This second set is what functions as the connection between Bitpim and the phone. Reboot the PC. 4. Now set Bitpim up. Taken from: drizzt1666 13-03-2008, 04:27 PM Step 3: - Transfering java files on to your phone Install and start BitPim on your PC. 3.1. On top at the menus go to: Edit > Settings. Then: Phone Type: Other CMDA Phone. At the Com Port there is a button called Browse. Here you will choose the Qualcomm Diagnostics Interface 3197 device, it should be in the list of available ports. (This step will set the phone connection.) (This will find the com port needed for connection.) 3.2. Then go to View > View Filesystem. In the left side the tree will pop up and you will see a thing called "Filesystem". Click it, and next to it, another tree will be there with a / sign. Click the "/" and open it. After a few seconds you will see your phones full memory. (If Bitpim is not finding the phone that means the com port is not located. IE. You may have click on Qualcomm USB driver instead of the Diagnostics Interface 3197 device. Which is the correct com port. The other reason. The phone was not rebooted after you set the Qualcomm driver in the phone.) 3.2a. IMPORTANT:>>> AT THIS POINT BACKUP YOUR PHONE DB. Here’s how. In Bitpim’s browser window showing all the files and folders on the phone. Go down from the top of the list until you see the folder “/DB2/phonedb/backupDB”. Open this up and save/(backup) the file “PHONEDB.00”. Save this file to the pc. This file/or folder will be saved a zip file. 3.3. Go to Media > Games (/Media/Games) folder. You have to copy here your Java stuffs. I highly recommend that put each program in a separate folder (making new folders: right click on the Games folder in the tree view and "Make subdirectory.". Copying files: right click on the empty space in the right side and "New file."). You can only copy 1 file at the same time! You will need both .jar and .jad files in order to make it work (if you have .jar only then use JADMaker to create the .jad file). THIS SECTION CONTAINS A WARNING! FINISH READING BEFORE DOING… 3.4. When you finished copying games to the phone. You can go back to the folder “backupDB” and delete the file “PHONEDB.00”. (See step 3.5 first) Then turn you phone off and then on again. Reboot. Doing this you may stand to loose you phones address book and or other important information not tied down. So before you do this. Back up everything you like about your phone. I used PC STUDIO v3.1.3. Just in case. It turns out. I did not need to worry. I lost nothing. What “PHONEDB.00” does. This is a data base for the phone. So if you delete it. The phone needs a new one. So on Reboot. The phone OS system looks at all the files and databases them. That is how the Java games get recognized by the phone. This bypasses the phone hacking with numbers thing. 3.5. If you finished with all the transfers and deleting the file “PHONEDB.00”. Close BitPim and pull of you phone from the cable. 5. Useful files: mpowerplay Try games out. BTW if you JAVA games don't have a .JAD file you can download JADM  more

Voting Question: What does Vista or HP Error Code 0X4001100200001005 mean?

I have a 1 ½ yr. old, HP Pavilion Elite m9040n (see below) and it is has 2 partitions [C and D (recovery partition)].. This all started when Vista updates started failing. It kept getting stuck on the 2nd of the 1 of 3 updates. Would have to reboot PC and could get back into Windows until all that finally failed. Then I would try restore to an earlier point until that wouldn’t work either, so got Recovery Disks out. I then tried to do a factory image recovery and reload the OS. It originally started failing at about 7-8%, but later got to about 45% and now is back to about 7-8%. After about 10 min., it stops and gives error code 0X4001100200001005 …. If this issue continues, please contact HP Support (1-800-474-6836). I checked the hard drive both the short/comprehensive way and everything checked out OK. I did some research for this code on the web and came up with some ideas/solutions from others….but nothing has worked. •Somebody said “0X4001100200001005 means the HDD has either failed or the motherboard itself can no longer detect any HDD in the system... The MB would need to be brought in for repair.” •Another said “definitely contact HP they have a special recall that ends this month even if it’s out of warranty. They will walk you through to see if yours is covered.” •Another said “(if)you have changed hardware...added RAM, added an internal card, or something that is halting the install process…..Make sure the computer is in its original configuration.” (mine is) •Another said, “Return the PC to the state it came with…If you added a video card, remove it and go back to the onoboard etc….The restore disks look for the original hardware…..That is why I bought a FULL OS and reformat rather than use restore disks that came with the system. •Another said “I tried almost everything and was extremely skeptical when someone said all they had to do was clean the recovery discs, but then I tried it.. Success. Also try burning another copy if cleaning doesn't work. It’s unfortunate that HP hasn’t come up with a separate page for this or forums where their own techies are answering questions. but what can you do? …anyway; clean or burn. really simple.” •Another said, “OK – so what does 0×4001100200001005 mean?...To HP it means ‘bad DVD disk’ in windows vista when restoring Vista from DVD – and just how would bananas know that ?....Well I was asked to fix Vista after a Microsoft update killed the hard disk of a laptop. Fortunately I had made copies of he backup DVD’s for the user before hand, but the user of the machine (not bananas) lost the users contents…….I mean what a piece of crap Vista is (the machine isn’t more than 8 months old and it needs a complete Microsoft OS reload. ….HP need to improve there restore program, and should think about being a little more informative about what 0×4001100200001005 means…..The moral of the tale is that Microsoft are not doing themselves any favors, not having a DVD backup of vista and it dies then congratulations your a new Linux user or do you spend a fortune on another of winblows vista since you be have been running an illegal copy right ?.....So how where the DVD’s (two of them )stored ? the backup DVD’s where stored in individual CD sized envelopes both inside a plastic folder. …How they became unreadable ? you tell me…TCO (total cost of ownership) is a means in which paid for software is deemed to have a better return then evil open source software. …Frankly if you have to reload Microsoft’s paid crap every six months and spend a day trying to guess what the f**k 0×4001100200001005 means then tco is meaningless by Microsoft’s measure since I had only one copy of the bad restore DVD then the only way forward would have been to load Linux on the laptop. •I sent the laptop to a hp dealer here in spain and they said that the problem was in the recovery cd. Doesn't have any visible scratch but they made a copy of it and then it worked....just it... a little stange but worked.. Anyway, I took the PC back to Best Buy where I had purchased it and a 3 yr extended warranty. Geek Squad called back next day and said they checked the hard drive. It checked out OK and it must be a software problem which was not covered by the warranty program (only hardware!, news to me!). It would cost me $129.95 for them to reload the OS but they wouldn’t guarantee their work unless I bought their $29.95 software warranty and purchased one of two software anti-virus, etc. programs that they sell and (charge you for loading). [By this time I had figured out why Best Buy was selling the same PC for $200 less than I could have bought directly from HP with full 3 yr warranty!] Told them thanks but no thanks as I’m not sure of what is the problem really is after researching this. Anyone have any ideas? HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Price $1,190 CPU 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Motherboard chipset Intel G33 Memory 3GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Grap  more

Resolved Question: How can I copy the Windows Vista Registry?

I want to copy the system32/config folder to an external hard drive, but the registry itself is locked to copying. Even TeraCopy doesn't help, and Unlocker finds no locking handles. I copied ntbackup and its corresponding dlls over from xp and enabled Removable Storage Management, but the shadow volume copy won't work. I don't want to use System Restore because it is a space hog, I can't choose what to backup, and I can't move the backup files. Any help?  more
