Resolved Question: Linux/Ubuntu Bare Metal Recovery (live) question?
I have 3 Linux/Ubuntu servers. I need a way to do snapshots of them over time (kind of like Norton Ghost does on Windows) and to be able to easily recover them if there's a hard drive failure using a Bare Metal Restore. I have a Buffalo NAS array that is local that I can copy the data to. I posted this before and people recommended Remastersys or Clonezilla. This will not work because I need a way to backup the servers when they are active. I also would like to automate a daily/weekly backup schedule. At our company we have 3 active servers. We are a processing company and have a source, a working and production server. At this point, to back up, we take all the files on each server and sort by date modified and then cut and copy to a 1 terabyte hard drive. Then delete the data off of the original drive.This must be done daily. We are constantly having to clear our servers to keep performance up and also clear space. Currently, it is working out fine, we log which drive the data is on and is searchable by an excel file we created for the backup log. Now, my question is, Is there an automated program which will backup folders by the a specific range of last date modified and then delete off its source location? Also, we are wanting to have it send an email to the client stating we are backing up your data and may be deleted soon if do not pay for our storing fees. Does anyone know of a program that can do all of this automated? If not we will write our own, but it would be nice if something already existed. Hi... I have a problem where by I am loosing disc space quite rapidly but this is on a partition which is not accessible to anyone but me and is not home to any data, only program files, an email exchange and user profiles etc. I suspect the issue is something to do with an automated process such as updates, a backup or some kind or automatic logging but can't figure out exactly what. If I could somehow track how the sizes of folders change over a period of time I could isolate the problem.
